dropped my brand new huntsman out of my pocket and onto the concrete today. Scuffed up the pretty red scales. Someone help me not feel so bad about it! Let me hear your SAK stories

On my users I have always installed Nylons scales (hard to find now) so scuffs hardly show. But... scuffs are just part of life. I tire or posts showing "my EDC knife" that looks like they just took it out of the box. Scuffs on scales and blades show use and that's good!

If you break stuff, that just means you are living life and not hiding in a cave. So wear it as a badge of honor.

Or, you can get new scales on eBay, and/or "upgrade" to Plus scales that add a pen and pin. Costs maybe $15.

It kinda depend on the user, there are three options:

1) Live with it, and make that part of the story

2) Change to new scale if it really bothers you, I do that whenever the scale has chipped or broken

3) Restore it, container store do sell acrylic repair solutions, and it could take care most of the scuffed up plastics(not just SAK). This may save cost in a long run, if you have more SAKs, want to keep them looking pristine, and no need to change scale unless you absolutely have to.

I’ve replaced the scales on several of my SAKs with Remade scales. Tough, decent traction in your hands, not overpriced, and they aren’t bad looking either.

I paid a lot of money for a red Farmer with scissors mod a long time ago. I carried it (and still do) in a pocket organizer to keep it both handy and pristine. My wife borrowed it for something while we were visiting friends, and promptly dropped it on their stone patio. If our friends hadn't been there, I'd have cried like a little girl. That was long ago. While I'm still protective of it, it now has numerous other scars. No biggie. It's a user, and still my favorite pocket knife. Plus, I get to bring up the original ding to the wife now and then. :)

It'll happen. Eventually you'll come to appreciate the wear as the knife becomes your own.

Personally, I have real trouble using new SAKs with cellidor scales for the first time. It's one reason why I prefer to buy second hand.

IMO nylon scales actually improve in appearance as they're carried and used, becoming smoother and resistant to scratches. It's a pity they're so uncommon on new knives these days - new old stock only, really - and as mentioned above, increasingly harder to find new.

Had my new SAK Spartan in my watch pocket, getting out of my car. I stood up and started walking. It slipped out of my pocket and landed on my toes while I was walking, thus kicking it down the entire concrete ramp of the parking garage I was in. I'd say it slid about 50 feet before hitting a concrete wall at the opposite end.

It instantly obtained that well-used look.
