Hey guys, pretty new to this forum so whats up!
Anyways, I just bought a swisschamp last Sunday to compliment my single blade EDC. I love this thing!!! I never imagined using a knife so much. I haven't handled or seen in person a swisschamp XLT, but I would like to have one because of the bit driver it has that the original champ does not. Does anyone own this knife and use it regularly? Is it too big for EDC, or too big to get a good grip on for any usage?
Thanks guys!
For years, a Swisschamp was the only knife-like pocket companion I owned. Over time, all the tools have been used except for the small screwdriver on the backspring side. As a pocket tool kit, Swisschamp has almost everything I need. Some SAK enthusiasts think maybe too much, but I find it about right. Why not have it all?
On a day to day basis, also under some extaordinary circumstances, it has performed reliably and would have remained my sole EDC if not for an introduction to Leatherman about ten years ago. Pliers based multitools, especially the larger ones, have been so useful to me that I now carry one more often than the Swisschamp. Although I find myself sometimes missing a few SAK features, carrying both is out of the question (except when traveling where everything can ride in the luggage). Being an adult requires making choices, is it not?
These days I have several more SAKs and plier based multi-tools. Some I prefer for specific applications, but if restricted to one only, it would probably be the Swisschamp (tough choice, though, I'd hate to give up full size pliers and locking implements

).
From this standpoint of bias, I believe the Swisschamp is at the limit of wieldyness, and anything larger is too bulky for EDC and too large for a good grip. A Swisschamp suspended by shoestring lanyard from my belt into a RF jeans pocket carries easily, the XLT not so much. The same applies to belt pouch carry.
Rather than further load up a SAK, additional tools would serve better if carried separately. My opinion.
