I was reviewing some upcoming legislation in Tennessee and wondered if anyone knew some background on it. It appears that Switchblades were illegal and are now being made legal to sell to law enforcement, military etc...

HOUSE BILL 2957

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13, relative to the manufacture and sale of certain weapons.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1302(b), is amended by adding the following language as a new, appropriately designated subdivision:

(8) Involved the manufacture and sale of an automatic knife, provided the sale of such knife was limited to:

(A) Retail establishments that represent in writing that they only sell such knives to law enforcement officers, military personnel and emergency medical technicians;

(B) Law enforcement officers;

(C) Military personnel; or

(D) Emergency medical technicians.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006, the public welfare requiring it.

The original sections just said

39-17-1302. Prohibited weapons.

(a) A person commits an offense who intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs or sells:


(1) An explosive or an explosive weapon;

(2) A device principally designed, made or adapted for delivering or shooting an explosive weapon;

(3) A machine gun;

(4) A short-barrel rifle or shotgun;

(5) A firearm silencer;

(6) Hoax device;

(7) A switchblade knife or knuckles; or.........
