Hello,

I'm new to this, but have many knives. I now want an axe. I want kind of a tactical look/ cool looking but has function. Doing minimal research I have found these two companies, Vectors Hawks and RmjTactical. These two interest me quite a bit. Anyone know much about them(quality)? Also what other companies are out there that make axe's comparable to these in the looks category?

Thanks,

Justin

brother justin,

first, sorry to be late getting on here, brother! - i have been down in the Hawk Dungeon ( - my little composites shop) losing track of the months, developing new handle and stick technologies for the Investors.

we are actually NOT a tomahawk company; we are a composites company that re-handles other folks' tomahawk and hatchet and axe heads on our current model, the Gen 1 Mk 3 composite handle. - we are limited only by your imagination, in most of the possible appearances of the hawk - we won't do anything vulgar or sacriligious, that's about it....

normally, we recommend Cold Steel Trail Hawk heads (which unfortunately vary in quality, so we have to handpick them - but when they are good, they are SO good...), to put on one of our handles, especially for folks who haven't had experience with tomahawks yet - we cover that suggestion with our Unconditional Happiness Guarantee - which is not meant to be an advertisement, but an elaboration of how much confidence we have in that particular head, and its value as what we consider to be a "proper tomahawk head" (among many others).

while i still have faith in Cold Steel, it has had QC issues this year (- which are limited to aesthetics, in our experience - the heat treats have been fine in our tests) that have slowed us to a crawl, so we are looking into making our own branded heads. - no word yet on when that will commence.

i have heard nothing but good things about RMJ Forge hawk heads, but have not handled one yet (i think i might actually have one to handle, but my line-up is huge right now, so i am no help there). - i am betting they cover their hawks just as we do - if a Maker voids their warranty when you get one of our handles on their head, it is still backed up by our Happiness Guarantee - it is completely understandable to us that they would do that, they don't know us from Adam, after all.

one would want to have absolute faith in your axe or hawk, of course.

it's a goal, if not a reality.

there are a lot of pretty knives and tools out there, but IMHO what you should look for are the Makers that back their product. we are fortunate that that is the standard in this community, aren't we!:thumbup:

HTH.

I have a K5 Hammer Poll hawk and love it. It's a heavy beast though... I wouldn't use it for hand to hand unless it was all I had. For breaching and other more destructive purposes it's awesome. Built like a tank.

I'm new to axes/hawks also her is some of what I found. Crashaxe, truckmenaxe, wilson ax, paul chen axes, TRG Battleaxe II and ranger knives. Good luck with your search.

i have an RMJ Eagle Talon and would it is worth every dime.... Ryan has a new hammer forged hawk as well.

i beat the crap outta mine... practically indestructible:)

I have an RMJ Shrike Hammer. Absolutely awesome. Weighs about 2 lbs, Full beard 'hawk. The back side of the beard is also sharpened for pull strikes. Tanto style back spike is quite sharp as well. Gunkote on it is a little iffy, but I'm sure that it designed more for protection in shipping than anything else. Comes with a sharpening stone in the handle (make sure you remove it before using it though, it will break). Micarta handle is nice too. lightens it up a little. Overall, very nice.
