Some (long) time ago I got the request from a forum member to build him a tactical sword which he designed. He send the design and I was pretty impressed by it. Although I never made a sword before I thought it would be a great challenge. At many moment I regretted this decision because making this sword was not as easy as I thought. This project challenged me many times.

The 26” sword is forged out of a 0.5” thick piece of O2 (1.2842) after which I selectively hardened the blade. The point, center and the bottom of the blade are a lower Rockwell than the cutting edge. The guard and pommel are made out of 1060 and given a black gunkote finish. Grip is green linen micarta and grooved. The balance point lies about 3” in front of the guard, making it rather lively. You can almost call this one a broad sword since the widest part of the blade is 2.8” wide.

All in all I’m pretty pleased with the end result although there are many points that could be better.

Ok some piccies now:

Sword next to a competition blade in the making of 38 cm/ 14.9”

 Not bad for a first attempt. Trying to imagine the feel when wielding it... The handle looks a little wide at the guard but I guess its tailored to your customer's grip.

Think I would have finished the pommel to a point like the drawing instead of it being flat. But then again if I had half your skills I'd be over the moon.

Well done mate:thumbup:

That's an impressive looking piece, I'd love to feel how it handles.

Nice work!

Very nice work, Toni. But isnt that thing illegal in the Netherlands? ;)

I think it turned out very nice. What does it weigh.

keith it weighs 1.4 Kg

JDM61: no this one is perfectly legal in the Netherlands. There are only restrictions concerning carrying and transport. Carrying this blade is forbidden and transport should be in such a way that the blade is not directly accessible (meaning you should put it in the trunk and in a scabberd).

That is way cool:thumbup: I'd say you pulled it off admirably!

I like it, pretty similar to a roman gladius, and you can't get much more tactical than that.
But think swords ceased to be tactical around the second half of the XIX century... ;):foot:

Very nice. I'll take it! :D

I like the use of synthetics on the handle. I would love to see a larger, almost hand and a half version of this.
