Tanto style blades, what's everyone's feelings?

Three tantos and two buddies.

I carried one for a few years. They aren't great in the woods, but not bad for the urban.

That's how I see them, as urban edc/utility knives. I find that they work very well for me in that context. I've never tried using one in an outdoor situation, so I can't comment on that, but a tanto definitely wouldn't be my first choice for that sort of use, though I know some people have.

Tantos are also good for Seppuku. Good in a zombie apocalypse

What knife is this? Me likey.

If you are just going to kneel down, give up, and commit seppuku... then use a Ginsu steak knife and don't insult anybody's craftsmanship.

Used a chisel ground tanto when I worked on the docks. It's a tough, well suited blade configuration for a construction site.

Back in the 80s when I was in the military, I bought tanto blades a lot. Not so much anymore. But it's an incredibly useful blade shape.

Never been a huge fan of tantos. I do like the way they look though, if the grinds are nice. All of my tantos at this point are automatics. Since I usually carry two blades anyways, it doesn't hurt for one of them to be a tanto.

And staying with that theme, I ordered this one today. ;-)

I've always liked the looks of the CRKT Kit Carson knives, just never liked the steel. At least this one has CPM-154. That's not a bad steel to me, being I'm not a steel junkie.

Umnumzaan tanto - anyone own one of these? What is your opinion of the tip - does it seem that it's pretty robust for stabbing and light prying? I'm thinking of getting one but haven't been able to judge from just some off-angle photos.

Paragraphs!
Anyways, tantos are usually associated with mall ninja and collectors so they often tend to be mediocre user-knives.
There are a couple makers out there that make some decent tantos. But from using them, they tend to be useful in their own right even though they are very subpar hunting/skinning knives.

Very nice work. Especially for a first try. Awesome.

I feel like we are returning to the ole Blacksmith era, where the men would take up the craft of steel, for the love of its simplicity and purity in the scope of technology. The perfection that can come from craftmenship.

Now someone needs to release a mini machine shop rig. I'd really love to learn blade crafting too.

Not much to it...
