I have learned through guidance and experience that when tapping 2-56 into titanium that I need to use a #48 rather than the recommended #50 drill.

What's the best drill size to use if I need to tap 2-56 directly into G10 without a metal liner?

Thanks in advance for any guidance

You can use the correct size for the tap. Just be careful and don't strip the hole. I would recommend a seperate tap for each type of material, one for steel, one for g10, one for TI.

G10 is extremely abrasive...Like you did not know this...It is fair to warn you that the cutting geometries become extremely diminished after a few tapped holes so keep an eye on the taps..

I'm just moving the clip on a knife, so I'll only need to tap three holes. I plan to clean the lube out of the holes and then use some epoxy to help take some of the load off the screws.

If the G10 is thick enough, an insert on the other side might work better for you. Unless it is a very coarse thread, G10 can strip out fairly easily.
