Tear drop pattern - any love?

I have been recently attracted by the tear drop pattern. In particular the Ivory Micarta Tear Drop from Paul Mason with ivory micarta handles is one of the most elegant traditional knives I have came across.

Also well known is the Case Teardrop knife that was introduced in 2014. But other than that there seem to be very few knives in this pattern out there.

I would love to see more of these knives - please share your photos and opinions.

thanks :)

Hoss, the GEC #85 is quite loved around here. The 2011 Forum knife was based on it. Yes.... lots of love for them.

I did not realize that the GEC #85 is actually also a tear drop pattern, as it gets called bullet jack (it also looks a little more 'ronust').

The #85 GEC in Coco is my go to. Rare are the days it does not ride in my RFP. Will be picking up an SFO in antique jigged bone from Mike ....soon, I hope.

The Case / Bose is a little smaller than the GEC version, more of a gent's in my opinion. I'm a fan.

I may get ran up a tree for this but I look at the TDJ and swell end jack as the same. I may look at it to broad, but my eyes see them as the same. Here is my swell end jack collection all three different GEC patterns but to my eyes much the same. Except the thinness of the single blade 15 they feel the same in the hand. Yes; I like them a lot!

I do not have any experience with a GEC teardrop but I am really looking forward to the new Case Chestnut CV version coming soon. It also has a real wharncliffe blade as opposed to a spear. And it is single blade also.

That is a beautiful Bose knife John. Thank you for sharing.

I was not aware of this "coming attraction" Thank you for the heads up. I will definitely be adding some money to the Case stockpile.:D

blue Lagoon bone Case. I love the color, F &F W & T are top but the blade size a bit slim for me. A perfect gift to my daughter, along with a purpose made blue ostrich pouch.

That Bose tear drop is really awesome.

I am actually interested more in the non-wharncliffe blades for every day use (the wharncliffe is a great blade shape, but I find it to be more of an utility blade around packages, paper, etc). At the same time I have to admit that a wharncliffe blade just fits the tear drop design better.

I am considering to get the Case single blade tear drop just to test the pattern.

the Case teardrop in 6.5 bonestag is still around, but look forward to the new ones coming out, especially in CV.
The smaller case vs the GEC 85 makes it my choice as a gent carry. The Zulu spear does all I need when I carry it including opening boxes and packages.

the 85 tho is a great all around carry and the big fat spear, great on peanut butter...

To my eyes, the teardrop/swell end/bullet Jack is one of the most elegant patterns out there. I think Queen's is probably the most aesthetically pleasing, to my eye -I guess it just seems the most old-fashioned. The fat GEC and Queen spear blades just look amazing. The Case is gorgeous too, but to my mind it is a different animal from the others. It seems much more svelte, more like a dress knife, while the others seem like classy work knives. I am definitely hoping to pick up one of the new run of forthcoming GECs; their 85 pattern seems to be one of their most well-loved.

Here's a few from my collection. Mostly vintage stuff plus a recent custom from Esnyx. I prefer the beefier teardrop shape over the slimmer gent's style like the Case/Bose.

Top stuff there Phil, unusual that one with Clip master.

The Teardrop is one of my favourites and amongst more recent manufacture, Queen has always offered a good range of them, so too their sister marque, Schatt & Morgan.

Here, ACSB liner-lock and D2 Great quality all round:cool:

Thanks Will!

Those queens are really something. I've drooled over that model before, but I just can't stand liner locks so I passed. All 3 handle materials you showed are so classy. Not sure if I could pick a favorite.

The clip main on my old Schrade is indeed an unusual one, as is the sheepfoot.

I've got a few more to show, but as it's near kip time here (bed time) and Photobucket are down for maintenance, they'll have to keep.

The Case/ T.Bose Teardrop is a nicely made knife and I have both single and the Jack version, but I do feel the blade is just too insubstantial for the frame. I know it was intended that way but it looks more like Quill knife to my eye. Can't fault the F&F though. I think they are now offering one with a Wharncliffe blade which is a bit more meaningful.

Queen Cutlery released some sturdy Teardrop Jacks in their QCCC line sme years ago, these are killer!

Case Teardrop in Ebony. Would like to see a GEC #85 with clip blade come around again. Would snap it up.
