TechStudio K01 Profile Sharpening System

Just so you know I have ask but I have forgotten what I was told but I think it is when you set the angle with the Lens kit you need to set it with the stone holder all the way ahead or back I just forget but what you are looking for is the highest angle you can with the stone holder before you raise or lower the lifting unit to set the angle.

I am going to have to plead ignorance here, but what does a "Lens" kit do? After reading all the reviews here I ordered a K03 and a few accessories which should be here later this month or early next month. I did not find the kit listed on the STATES site but tid find it one the TSOPF site, but no explanation of what it might do.

it is an attachment that lets you do convex edges. The kit has 3 different size convex to choose from. They also sell just the middle size by itself. I assume because lenses are curved, that is why they have the name they do. Why not call them convex attachments? I have no idea.

I have talked to Paul a few times by phone about a few concerns and problems I needed help with about the K02,there is one thing I have learned about Tsprof I'm going to share with you the biggest problem with them is they are always changing everything about the K02 at a whim witch makes for a massive headache and problem, for example when I ordered my K02 and later on got the reinforced spring's they had changed the fixing unit's and the hole pattern's witch meant I had to wait for them to ship George the newer version of spring's and they also never gave any advance notice to George that they were making the new spring's and that the old reinforced springs would not work with the new fixing unit's witch meant he did not even have a chance to order any until after I discovered the problem, also the same thing just happened again to me when I ordered new conical clamp's they came with the latest design fixing unit's that yours will also come with unless they decide to change them again.

The one thing I will strongly recommend is when you get your K03 make sure to learn and understand what version of all the part's your has because like I said thing's get changed on a whim with Tsprof,I know more then just me have emailed and also called Paul asking them not to change thing's so fast and he said they want to constantly improve the design witch is great but they change thing's so fast that they do not even think about backwards compatibility,I know I strongly cautioned them about slowing down on constantly changing thing's because it's a nightmare when you order a part and get the wrong one and have to wait months just to get right part plus the headache for them of having so many part's to make,I told them they should try and do like the Wicked Edge does come up with new ideas and release them once a year.

Also about the Lens kit thing I'm not sure if part of it has something to do with them not having the same word in Russian because everyone in Canada and the USA calls where you attach the fixing unit's the Crossbar where they call it a Frame, when I asked about getting the new Crossbar they thought I wanted the body part of the K02 for reason.

Also I'm not trying to discourage you from still getting a K03 they a great machines and work very well and you will enjoy it a lot just be sure to learn and understand what version of part's you have and also send them a picture of the part's you have and tell them what you want even if your ordering threw George at STATES and then relay the info to him just incase they have not informed him of any part changes.

Hi everyone,
In an effort to stay better informed, I have started making a weekly phone call and the one question I ask each time is, "Have you changed or "improved" anything since my last phone call?" I hope this will catch items that would otherwise fall through the crack.

Also, we received an email two days ago saying they ran into a problem with getting stones, again, and the shipment will go out at the end of next week. All this to say, we usually get our tracking numbers either the day before the items arrive or the day of.

George

P.S. Have you seen our new website?

If you want the diamond stones you can get them threw gritomatic as well they are sold under the Venev brand and I have had no problems at all dealing with gritomatic if they say they are out of stock just email Konstantin from gritomatic and ask him if he has them in stock because sometimes his website is not always up to date,if you want them faster also use EMS shipping from Russia.

Just wondering when the diamond stones will be available

Thanks George for the updates. At least we are not totally in the dark about what is going on with our orders. You website looks good, but I have one suggestion. On the main units, kits for K03 and K02, show some larger more detailed pictures to show what is in the kit, and possibly pictures of the main unit from different angles.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will take a better set of photo's when the new batch arrives. With the rate of change, it will be very time consuming and expensive to take photo's every month to two months. Thanks for understanding...George

Come see us at Blade Show 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. Tech Studio Profil will have a booth and S.T.A.T.E.S., LLC will be in the booth with them. We plan to give away a K03 Wranglerstar kit as a "door prize".

George

I recently received my order from Tech Studio, but unfortunately the convex attachment and full milled clamps were missing from my order. I was really looking forward to playing with the "lens kit."

George, a great idea and thanks for the updated web site. I’ve been lurking (i.e. reading 35+ pages of this thread for the past week or so) and reading everything I can about the TSProfile system. Although I’ll probably have dozens more questions my first is pretty straight forward. Do you see a time where you’ll be able to do a Configurator on the States web site? I have dozens of stones and a fairly limited library of knives so many of the attachments or stones I wouldn’t need. Pavel and Sergei’s website at TSProf does let me create an order more custom suited to my needs but obviously there is the aspect of reliable communications which is so important when ordering outside the states for a product with lengthy lead times.

Have you tried emailing George threw his website email George he is pretty good at getting back to people but he has problems in the past not getting all his emails not sure if he has that fixed or not yet, also what kind of thing's are you thinking about leaving out of your order,if I were you pick up an angle cube for sure and a good set of wrench's as well.

If you have not read a few pages back about care and maintenance of the K02 I highly recommend using the Ultra Slick stuff for lubing all the screws on the clamp's that you use to tighten the jaws and on the lifting unit's main shaft as well to prevent metal on metal wear the Ultra Slick is great because it is thick and does not dry up very fast over time.

Another thing I use to lube the guide rod with is product called Super Lube witch is a clear grease and it does not make much of a mess if you get it on you because it's clear.

Hi Wade, thanks for the input.
I have sent George a website email but it’s early yet and I’m patient. I simply asked in that email how he positions himself in his relationship with Pavel and Sergei, does he interface with them solely for STATES, or does he/can he help with special orders. I suspect I know the answer but we’ll see.

As to what I’d leave out...stones~-$50, the double clamp in preference for the conical double ~+$, and a couple other minor pieces. It added up to about a $75 savings. The Configurator allows me to customize what I want at a price point that fits. Now the first thing that comes to mind here is the backlog of orders and depending how much one is willing to spend to simply GET one lol! Believe me I’ve thought about simply biting the bullet and ordering the whole shebang and eating the cost of the parts I don’t need/want, and then paying even more for the accessories I do want. Right now simply getting a unit in a timely fashion seems to be the practical thing to do...or getting a prescription for A few months worth of chill pills and order direct. We’ve obviously all seen the frustration from some of the posters but likewise we’ve seen very high satisfaction. Toss up for me at the moment, but I lean towards STATES for a variety of reasons.

Haven’t used Ultra Slick before but I’ve seen it. Sounds worthwhile. Thanks! Yes on SuperLube. As a “specialist” (which as we all know means “jack of all trades”) I was covering the Ops and Maintenence of some sophisticated instrumentation and had opportunity to use it when it was first being tested prior to commercial release. Good stuff. Big tube in my workshop.

Let’s face it TSProfile is in its formative years still, at least as far as being a commercially viable product in high demand. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great product but as of now demand is outstripping supply and they’re making changes almost from one batch to the next. I can’t blame them for that: The guys are excited about improvements. But that has an impact on their sales and how people perceive them when something changes and what fits on version 3b doesn’t fit on version 3a. I suspect their production budget and abilities are maxed out right now. I’m sure it will get better. I don’t know about their “corporate structure” but someone probably needs to man up as CEO and say okay guys great idea let’s incoporate that in a completely new release and look at backward compatibility. I’m just a tad nervous about ordering direct and STATES has positioned itself well to act in a great capacity for TSProfile here in the US. I’d just like to see what George is comfortable about doing right now and then perhaps a bit down the road. Thanks for the input, I’m on the road with you here!

You will find whether or not you order direct or not there are going to be problems and I hope it will get better,I know after ordering my K02 I purchased the reinforced sprigs afterwards and they made a change to them and then I had to wait for them to send George the right ones now just recently I got a second set of the conical clamp's and they came with the new 20mm fixing unit's so I decided why not bite the bullet and just order a new crossbar as well, thing's are getting better George and Pavel talk once a week in an effort to keep George updated on change's they are making.

I have talked with Pavel and told him my frustration about changing thing's so much with the sharpener as it really creates a nightmare and also how it really frustrates me to spend so much money on a knife sharpener and I can not even get the basic parts like the reinforced springs or fixing unit's within a reasonable amount of time.

I would also recommend you get the reinforced springs for your K02 it makes for more accurate sharpening because they deflect less and if you ask me they should just include the reinforced springs as standard.

When rrsearching to buy a system i thought about getting one but the lead times and level of micro adjustments/parts and lead time for those led me to go for another system in stock and simpler.

Perhaps reducing the amount of micro adjustments to the design would allow for increased and faster production as well. It would also simify purchasing parts and aid customer confusion on compatibility. The extra time in between version redsign would also be used to ensure backwards compatibility of new accessories.

The adjustments aren't the problem once you have the clamp's adjusted you don't need to worry about them again and the only other thing to adjust is spot where you put the angle cube to zero it out.

The thing they need to stop doing is to stop making so many changes so fast to the sharpener and save them up and make improvement's once a year and also work on backwards compatibility of the accessories or at least the ability to be able to upgrade the system.

Wade & Cholo, Lol! I get it! This thread is practically burned in my mind I'm that interested...as I commented proviously I think they need someone at their end who's isn't as close to the excitement of new "micro adjustments/improvements/refinements" who can authoritatively just say,

"Whoa Nellie! Okay you and you are R&D, have fun don't mess with production, in fact go over to that barn and don't come out until I call you...you and you are purchasing and production, get the backlog squared away and buy more than enough to cover new orders...and you dude are sales, yeah only one of you...don't go promising the moon and create issues for production! Weekly meeting of Sales and Purchasing/Production, Sales what did George at STATES have to say this week? R&D you meet with me & sales once a week..."

R&D seems to be part of production at this point and I can see where thats creating issues. I'm just kicking back to see what happens a bit longer before I make the call.

All over that suggestion Wade. Particularly after I looked closely at some of the Youtube videos. You can say "hey let the stone do (most of) the work" but there will always be someone who thinks a heavier hand is better...(even if its yourself on occasion! ;) )
