i read in a post that someone carries a tee ball aluminum bat in their car for self defense. i never heard of it (dont have any kids).

we used wooden bats in my day....are they really strong enough to give someone second doubts about attacking me?

is there a particular brand that is better than others?

my main sd in my car is a CS Peacekeeper 7" double edged

thanks in advance.......Bill

an aluminum bat is certainly strong enough to give someone 2nd thoughts. an aluminum bat can easily crush and break bone. other metals are also available in bats. they're stronger than wooden bats, and would you wanna be hit with a wooden bat?

i really like Easton, Nike, and Louisville Slugger brands.

but as for relying on a bat for self-defense? probly a bad idea.

There are a variety of small, light bats that would work equally well. Tossed in the back of your car with a glove and some balls-pretty innocuous.

I handled an "assault" once where a young man had pretty thoroughly W/A on a couple of drunken louts with one of those "souvenier" bats they give away at the ballpark. From the location of the bruises on the "victims", I'd say he had some training. (and exercised considerable discretion!)

Why mess around with wood or aluminum, you can get them in Ti now. $ $$$

The wooden "Lousiville Slugger" is the classic stick, and it doubles as a baseball bat in a pinch. Also available are pick-handles, just remove them from the pickaxe head and you're ready to go. However, if you want a more fashionable, new-age look, go for metal. The "ding!" of aluminum on bone will surely drive any punks away from you. I prefer the "crack" and "thud" sound of wooden bats, though.

This thread reminds me of the scene in the "Untouchables" movie when Capone smacks one of his men in the back of the head with a bat. :)

I have a couple of t-ball or little league bats from my nephew's playing days. When I was younger and worked at a liquor store, I preferred a bat or pick handle over the Maglite for keeping the drunks in line. That was many years ago though. Nowdays you'd probably get shot and/or sued if you used a bat.

Serious understatement.

Best with oah/hickory..Buford Pusser.

Or how about in the movie "The Warriors" when Ajax (?) snarls at one of the baseball gang-bangers... " I'm gonna shove that up your ass and turn you into a popsicle"

If you want to us a bat for self defense I recomend something like this:

I know it does one hell of a number on tuna and mahi mahi.
That's pretty sweet. I like the triangular barrel.

A couple commercial guys around here have aluminum bats with gaff hooks banded to the ends. It's an all purpose tool for beating, gaffing and untangling pots.

I picked up a small aluminum little league bat t Target to keep next to my bed. I don't have much use for a full size bat since there isn't much room in my house and I'd end up hitting my stuff instead of whover was stupid enough to break in.

It was $6 on end of season clearance and is black with a great rubber grip.

You can't beat the value.

Hi All-

A regular-sized baseball bat is waaay too slow for effective use. If you're into impact devices, stick with the aforementioned tire-knockers or fishbats. The best bet for a combination of effectiveness and infinite courtroom defensibility is the Multi-Cell C Maglite: http://www.maglite.com/ccell.asp.

Explaining that ASP to the police officer might be tough, but you can have that 6-Cell C right beneath your carseat and keep a straight face when you explain why it is there. Reasonably bright and much faster to wield than a 6-Cell D.

Keep a SureFire around for real lighting needs, but the Maglite can't be beat for cheap utility. They're available in virtually any big-box discount store.

19' hickory tomahawk handles from Cold Steel work well. They are tear drop shaped, proving a good grip, and the top is slightly thicker than the rest of the handle. It wields good and is quick, and you can wrap it with bat tape to give it a better grip.

For this type of use, a plain 'ole hickory axe handle should do the trick for about five bucks.

Pepper spray is probably a better altenative.

And resist the temptation to explain to the nice officer why you still have the incan bub in your 6-C instead of upgrading your light with the latest LED drop in or maglit mod.

When I lived in L.A., I was once in line at an ATM in a somewhat marginal neighborhood. The woman in line behind me was carrying an aluminum t-ball bat. Making small talk, I said, "Got a t-ball game today?" She looked at me coldly and said "No."
