What is the best way to mount a large Tek-Lok on a knife sheath? Hinge up or down?

My preference is hinge up.

Not that it'll come unclipped but if it were to happen and it was hinge down you stand a better chance of the whole rig slipping off some how. Just my two cents.:)

I prefer mine hinge down, I think it helps to attach the sheath on the belt. I have never had a TekLok fail yet but I can see if it did how hinge up may be a benefit.

I like hinge down, easier to get it on the belt that way. :D

Hinge down for me. If you use the lock clip it won't come undone and is much easier to get on and off the belt.

Hinge at the top, clips to the bottom.

Clips are more/double protected from lateral pressures, as they are somewhat buried, plus, should they fail or come unlatched, there would still be almost a J-clip retention aspect left.

My $.02

YMMV

Hinge down, it makes attaching the knife to my belt much, much easier. I use a U-clip on my Tek-Loks so I don't have any worries about them opening in this position.

Looks like a tie... the new improved Tek-Loc may be easier to attach on the belt with hinge up.

Like always...to each their own. Just bring a stubby Phillips with you on your next outing and switch it around. That's the only way you'll know what works for you .

I need to get one, but there seems to be a few different types of Tek-Lok. Is the Blade Tech one the real/original one?

Just my preference, but hinge up. If it's more of a PITA to put on the belt, then it'll most likely be harder to fall off before noticed in the unlikely event that the clip comes undone. Like Hammy said...better to just hang J-clip style than to lose the rig.

The Blade-Tech one is the original. They just came out with a new design for their Tek-Loks; however, I prefer the old style.

I agree

Why fix it if it isn't broken?
I pulled the new flip-up Lock off due to not being able to get at it after it is flipped into place. Also can't stow a Sharp Shim in it anymore.

Glad I have a few of the old ones left here.
