Hey guys, it’s income tax time. Well, I plan on spending around 150 dollars of that on a new knife. I have been doing a lot of searching and there are a bunch of options out there. The Steel Will brand looks promising but I would like to hear reviews from those of you that have used them extensively.
There are several options in my price range but I would like to know how well they hold up over time. I am wanting something solid with a liner lock. Kizer had some nice options but the ones that caught my eye had titanium liner locks and it is known for poor wear resistance so I passed on them.

I like my Steel Will knives. I have the Cutjack and Modus in D2. I also have 2 Roamers (300 & 305). You get a lot of blade for your money.

I have the Cutjack 3" & 3.5" in D2. Great knives, great value. I have handled the Gekko and it is the smoothest lockback I've ever handled. It's a bit large and pricey considering the 690 steel they use but a great feeling knife.

I have a Mini Gekko, and it's phenomenal. My D2 Cutjack is also pretty decent. I'm looking at getting a Modus and Resident* too. They seem to be pretty solid for the price.

Edit: Somehow mixed Resident with Advocate. There is no Steel Will Advocate (unless you call my recommendation advocating).

I waited and waited on a Cutjack Mini and got one right when they were released on KC.

Unfortunately after receiving it about every 4 or 5 times of attempting to flip it open, the blade would not deploy, even manually? I was very confused as I'd never had this issue in all my years of modern folding knives. I actually sent it back and got a refund, and put the $ towards a Bugout. I've not regretted that decision at all, as the Bugout is perfect.

You mean the blade was sticking in the closed position?

I have a cutjack mini in m390. Smooth flipper, feels great in hand, wonderful bladeshape.
Lots of writing on the blade though; brand name, model name and number, and serial number. Makes it a little more difficult to clean up, but otherwise my favorite small slicer currently.

Cutjack is one of the best new knife companies on the scene. I wouldn’t hesitate to try them out if there is a model you like.

I actually had the same thing happen with a cutjack mini I received, but it happens about half the time where it is stuck in the closed position. That was after loosening the pivot pin because it wouldn't open at all when I first received it with the blade centered. Steel Will's fixed blades aren't bad for the money, but kinda leery of their budget pocket knives compared to their higher ends one.

My Mini Cutjack (G10 and M390) is an excellent knife. Fit and finish is very well done. I have only praise for it. Been carrying it since I got it in October and enjoy using it a lot. This knife displaced other knives that I really like to carry. No regrets. I suspect I will be buying one of their 2018 releases later on this year.

Exactly the issue mine had.

Think it is a fitment issue that is causing it. Never seen any other knife I've owned do that. Glad I'm not the only one to have the problem. Hopefully they will get the problem fixed and I will maybe consider another down the road. Right now I will only recommend their fixed blades.

I purchased mine in person and inspected it at that time. I suspect if I had seen this problem, I wouldn't have purchased one. I generally pay a little more "in-person", but I get to inspect the product before I take it home and that's worth something to me. The Mini Cutjack was actually the first flipper I have purchased in years (like 10) as I said I wouldn't buy another one after playing with them a bit. At the time, I just felt it was un-necessary for me, but at the same time I do like an AO knife from time to time. That is another transition I made and that was with the ZT 0770CF after years of not buying one for any reason.

Sadly I wish I could have purchased my in person, but the nearest place that sales knives around me is about 40 miles away. The only options there are Buck, Case and Kershaw. To find an actual knife shop I have to drive nearly 100 miles one way. I just hope whatever the issue is, they are able to rectify it with future runs.

The knife shop I usually visit is a couple of hours drive. I visit when I am in the area and usually when I'm doing a job and pass within about 10 miles of the store. There are quite a few stores that sell knives in my area, but only one that carries an extensive line. The kicker is sales tax which in my case is generally about the same as shipping costs. No income tax in TN, so they have a rather high sales tax rate.

I had 2 Cutjacks.

Both were nice..
Price was right. D2 steel.

I sold them because I am not a flipper guy.
