Yesterday I received the Teräva Tiny Knife from Varusteleka.

They make this knife from the Skrama 240 leftover 80CrV2 steel, so it's a real cool upcycling project.

The 6.5" overall knife sports a scalpel/kiridashi like blade, just shy of 2" - it's a small knife.

However, with a thickness of 0.17 it's a sturdy little bugger.

The handle is long enough for way bigger hands than me, and all edges are sanded, so it's comfortable.

The tang has a hole in it for a lanyard, but the slightly wider bevel is also good to open a beer:

I am not sure, but it seems parkerized, and this coating won't last if you use the knife as an bottle opener.

That said, it really feels alright in the hand and it's quite sharp out of the box.

I have not stropped it and it really bites deep into bone dry walnut.

It also shaves easily.

My main uses will be box opening, fine whittling and as a backup/add-on for a larger outdoor knife.

The sheath is made of leather, and requires two hand operation, as the flap would be cut off easily when you open it sloppily. I may make a small kydex for it, as I won't use it as a neck knife...

To sum up: it's a nice little big knife with way more sturdiness as needed, but I really like it so far...

IDK, at one hand it looks cool and in another hand - I'd rather take my Candiru or Izula over that. Also, I put handle scales on both, and actual handle makes them really shine. And sheaths offer more carry options...

BTW - is that chisel ground?

In any case, I hope it's priced way lower than Candiru for example.

I paid 35€, so it's not that expensive.

It's not chisel ground, and it won't replace my EDC BK14 with scales. Indeed, the Izula or other 3" + small fixed knives are way more versatile with a comfortable handle.

I suspect it will shine as a tape cutter, cable tie pry/cut knife and or splinter removal tool out on a hike.

However, I think this small knife is quite capable and can take as much abuse as it's bigger brothers.

That's a cool little knife !

I like to wrap bare steel handles with self-fusing silicone tape , for comfort and grip .

So, a year and a half later I must confess I really like the tiny knife, stick it in my pocket where it disappears until I need it. I usually just strop it and it seems to sharpen up nicely. It is small but it seems to cut above its weight class and is non threatening at all, especially with the taped handle. It has turned into one of my most used “small” knives that I have. Handle is super comfortable with the grip tape on it and good length to it so I get a full 4 finger grip on it. For the price it is worth looking at in my opinion.

Doesn't look like Parkerizing to me. Looks like some kind of paint.

Yep, you're right, it's most definitely some kind of not too long lasting paint.

Anyway, since I got it, I used it mostly for very fine tasks and reground the tip to a more acute angle.

Removing splinters, for outdoor use and opening boxes, cutting through zipties etc...
However, my wife uses it definitely more than me for hobbyist stuff like cutting paper into whatever shape, It's more robust than hobbyist scalpel knives.

It's just a handy little tool and it's really staying sharp a long time.

I picked up one of them a few months ago. I was mostly disappointed in mine. Whoever did the grinding on mine had their grinding hand a fair bit out of calibration. The blade was a bit stout for my tastes in EDC, but that thickness would be reassuring if I had no other options available. I was disappointed in the sheath at first, but I have since come to appreciate the minimalist simplicity, and surprisingly good retention of it. And after I got the blade ground to where I wanted it, I was happy with the edge holding.

It didn't go far...I pretty much gave it to my teenage daughter who has worked the heck out of it with great results. I think it'll make a nice pocket fixed blade once I get her a good leather or kydex sheath made for it. At the end of the day, it's not to my personal taste, but...I can easily see the merit in it, and how it would be a good fit for other folks.
