these are ocassionly caught fishing near lake bottoms. have an unusually primitive bone structure with decent very firm flesh. biologists call them fresh water drum-.locals call them gaspergou & they love crayfish, seldom take artificial baits.--dennis

taste is good, some texans say they do'nt eat fish so firm that it bounces when it hits the plate. i found it firm in texture but no fishy taste. some locals say they do well fishing bars protruding into lakes with small crayfish crankbaits especially during the dog days of summer. if i can stand the 100 degree heat i may try this summer. initial strike is hard but they give up w/o an extended battle.--dennis

here in south louisiana we just call them goo. they can get big, but any thing much bigger then you caught i put back. seems the bigger ones get worms in there flesh.
i like to fish them in may when the crawfish farmers drain there ponds. theres is a drain pipe on bayou amiee in henderson, that is a great place for the goo. i stand on the pipe and jig a small crawfish near the drain.....the goo and cats stack up there.
also i find you have to eat them fresh, they dont take the freezer well, they get mussie.

Yeah, that's a freshwater drum. They are great fighters. Some areas around here they call them white perch. I've never quite figured that one out.
