I just wanted to drop a note of thanks to all who have shared an abundance of information on this forum.

Yesterday while hiking, I came upon a recently felled Slash Pine tree. When I looked at the stump, it was all fatwood. I would not have been able to even look for, let alone find any, without the guidance that I have taken away from this place. I took out my blade and batoned off a few nice chunks.

Just thought that I'd share. :)

Chris

Aaaah ... nature's gold

Congrats on the find.

I thought gold was natures gold .

:p

Congrats Chris. You'll need to find more. The piece you found will go quick because you'll need to show everyone how cool the stuff is. :D

Nice score! Once it dries out I am going to go looking around here.

If gold is natures gold, that means fatwood is even more valuable than

Nope. Nothing is more valuable than that, provided I'm thinking what you're thinking. :p

Anyhoo, the wood was sticky indeed, and I used hot water to remove it from the knife. I will go back with an empty pack and line it with a plastic bag and load what I can carry. Just need to find the time.
