I've started carrying the following EDC:

Folder
Neck knife
Multitool
Wallet
Minimag/LED
Keys with fingernail clippers
Pen
Chapstick

I never realized how useful and damn near essential a little LED or similar is. I wouldn't have carried one if it wasn't for this forum. Any other cool and perhaps unlikely EDC items you guys can recommend? GIVE ME AN EXCUSE TO BUY A NEW TOY!

Muwahahahaaa is this guy asking for it or what? :D

Some kind of fire maker and back up
Telecomms
Cordage
direction finding
medical

to name but a few :)

I got myself 2 Zippos for fire needs, hey, I love fire :D Lighter tricks are cool to do when bored and a Zippo also makes for a classy lighter. I have the brushed chrome original and the brushed chrome zip guard models. I also have a magnesium/flint fire starter that I carry in my jacket pocket.

Good Evening All-

Additional items to consider adding when venturing beyond your property line:
  • water source
  • energy bars
  • sidearm + spare ammunition
  • clean bandanna
  • bold permanent markers

Your search can then begin for the ever-elusive bag that is not too casual, not too dressy, not too tactical, and not too ugly to carry it all around. That is a topic for yet another thread...

About the bags, you may want to check out the Maxpedition Versipack or Fatboy over at www.tadgear.com. Both look pretty cool and get good reviews here.

You may want to even check out one of :insert link to inappropriate thread/product:

Sorry Cougar.

If you bothered to read the rules of that forum you would know not to link to anything in it....

Sorry Cougar :( , for some reason I thought it was in Gadgets & Gear, I guess it's cause its just getting late and I need some sleep. I also did a quick little search and can't find those rules but I'll take your word on it :) Again, I apologize.

Steven's right, definitely put a glow ring at least on your keys!

My backpack has a small umbrella I usually leave in there even in clear weather. Also a couple of energy bars and sugar tablets, and water if I go on a hike. Also a med kit: simple bandaids, polysporin, rubber gloves, gauze, chapstick, nailclipper, all in a 4x6" snap case. Notepad and pen, pencil, scriber. (I like to leave a mark, OK? :) )

I like to have my Surefire with me, but a white LED Inova is OK. I've had flashlights come in handy in daytime -- buildings can have some dark corners inside!

Magnifiers: I need my eyeglasses, a small foldout magnifying glass, and a monocular unless I have my pack with me, in which case it's the Steiner 8x22. Sunglasses!

Cargo pants beat shoulderbags, but the backpack takes care of everything.

I can go outside without a knife ... I can, I can, I know I can ... noIcan't. Neck knife, usually a Bitteroot, big folder, usually an ER Nemesis if I don't carry the tanto Sebenza, tiny Victorinox mini-Champ in right front pocket next to Comtech Stinger! and a Victorinox Ranger, too. I haven't been carrying a multitool as much, but now that it's warm weather and I'm off to the woods more, I will. Small folder, shirtpocket size maybe: Dozier Thorn or Mnandi and SS Cricket in my notepad cover, or a DoDo instead.

You NEED some kind of prybar. A pocketwrench is inconspicuous and very tough.

You may need suspenders to help out your belt with all dat gear ...

Groannn ... I didn't mention, I carry my cellphone in a Maxpedition M2 unless the M2 is in the backpack, then the phone goes in a Max. cellphone pouch.

Mini Binocs
Digital Camera
Classy leather bound notebook
MP3 Player
Digital audio note taker
Small volume of poetry or spiritual writings (never underestimate the power of a lofty thought)
Harmonica
Hip Flask
Little brass tin for tobacco or other smoking material

Would you mind expanding on the above? Names, models, versions, and lengths where appropriate.

You're not kidding with "ever-elusive." I use a RoadWired Podzilla for every day carry. If I am dressing more formally, then I have a Wilson's Leather Traveler's Bag that does the trick. But I'm still looking. Grin.

It's amazing how few people actually mention carrying a prybar, let alone needing one at all. I have the Latshaw Tools PocketWrench II.

Everyone needs a Ziess Miniquick monocular. At 4.5" x .5" and less than an ounce. No bigger than a pen and very handy.
