The “High Culture” Movie Thread

"You insulted him a little bit"
Goodfellas

"Viddy well, brother, viddy well"
A Clockwork Orange

"You're out of your element, Donny!"
The Big Lebowski... this film is endlessly quotable.

Man I can't believe Predator hasn't been mentioned the king of 80s one liners
Predator
Dillon you son of a B**** whats the matter got you pushing to many pencils

This shit will make you a GD sequel tyrannosaurus just like me

He's dug in like an Alabama tick. And I ain't got time to bleed

I can't list them all or I would be here all day

Commando had some great one liners too
Let off some steam Bennett.

It’s amazing- you’re all right on the money with what I consider “High Culture”.

the list so far:

Under Siege - classic Steven Frederic Seagal

Big Trouble in Little China - great movie, I always forget about this one.

Iron Eagle - Red Dawn meets Top Gun

Red Dawn (1984) - Back in my day, kids armed with nothing more than gumption could overthrow a Russian takeover.

Aliens - for its time it was almost a work of art. It holds up well.

Indiana Jones- agreed, just maybe not the fourth one...

Die Hard - John McClane is the one cop who’s seen more action than most militaries.

Demolition Man - a personal favorite

Lethal Weapon - even the sequels are great, “Di-plo-matic immunity”.

Judge Dredd - I AM THE LAW!!!

The Godfather - I should revisit these.

Dirty Harry - the original cop with a chip on his shoulder.

Young Frankenstein - RIP Gene Wilder.

Blazing Saddles - I mean... if you don’t enjoy this movie you might not have a pulse.

Hard Times - I need to see this one.

the Shinning - still gives me the willies!

Jaws - sensational salt water cinema

Jurassic Park - Great movie; seen it bunches of times. Jeff Goldblum puts that movie over the top.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - I need to see this one, if I haven’t already. There’s so many good westerns that it’s hard to stand out.

Goodfellas - I need to rewatch

A Clockwork Orange - I think I tried to watch this once. I think it’s very hot or cold.

The Big Lebowski - the dude abides

Predator - also watching Danny Glover take one out in the second one after watching highly trained soldiers nearly fail in the first is a treat

Commando - Arnold in top form

Conan - what I imagine Arnold like before he broke famous.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Best line from that movie-
Think you used enough dynamite there, Butch?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Grueller- Now I'm a god
Pike (staking Grueller) - Now, you're a hat rack....

Roddy Piper in They Live-
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Jefe in Three Amigos
Could it be that once again, you are angry at something else, and are looking to take it out on me?

Best alien invasion movie quotes-
Spaced Invaders
Giggywig: Let me sum up the entire situation in a nutshell: there are five of us, and four billion of them. They have Strategic Air Command, nuclear powered submarines, and John Wayne. We have this- [holding up a tiny rifle] .

Giggywig: Look, when a vastly superior alien culture comes all this way to take over your world, certain basic laws of planetary conquest apply. For example, when someone points a Quad Vectored Hypo Thermic Cosmo Blaster at you, it's a fair bet you are about to become toast.

Mrs. Vanderspool: Will you please sit down and be quiet?

Giggywig: [Mrs. Vanderspool is rather overweight] Or perhaps in your case, a whole loaf of toast!

“Are you a pothead, Focker?”
Meet the parents

“Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?”
Donnie Darko

“You think those nitwits out there in zombieland remember anything?”
Natural Born Killers

How would you like to bite that in the butt, develop lockjaw and be dragged to death?

Lone Wolf McQuade

No matter where you to; there you are.

Buckaroo Banzai.

ive never seen this, if you can believe it, but it’s got Jeff Goldblum, John Lithglow, Peter Weller, and Christopher Lloyd... and the plot reads like a crack addict’s fever dream, so I’m in.

I’ll use the Peter Weller connection and raise you “Robocop” (1987).

“I’d buy that for a dollar!”

Dead or alive you're coming with me.

Those 80s movies were like quote factories.

Those 80s movies were like quote factories.

originally our “Culture Nights” were explicitly geared towards the 80’s machismo action flicks that were so bad they were enjoyable.... which is most 80’s action flicks. There’s like an infinite amount of them too.

here’s one from 1979 that’s a strange phenomenon... “Warriors”

“CAAAANNNN YOOOOOOUUUUU DIIIIG IIIIIIIIIT?!”

“waaaaarrrriors... come out to playyyyyyy”
