I first met Dylan Fletcher, who has a sub forum here on Blade Forums- http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/855-Fletcher-Knives at the International Blade show back in 2010, though I had been talking to him on line for a year or so before that. I had one of his earliest pieces, an original Delta Foxtrot. And since he was so adamant about testing it hard, man I put that knife through hell. It wasn't as streamlined and refined as the work he is doing today, but the ergos were sublime, the grinds were very well done, and it was a really tough knife that even back then had a great edge geometry for cutting. It came sharp enough to cut through a chuck roast twice with me hardly registering the resistance.
Since then I have had a few other Fletcher knives at different times for different applications, including a pro 6-5 I have carried with me everywhere I have gone through 8 states for four years. Over the past year I had been watching Dylan stepping up his knife-making game. Doing new models, tapered tangs, and a good bit of file work. So, I thought it was time to revisit Fletcher Knives.
Back in April I talked to Dylan about replacing my old P 6-5 with a new 24/7 model. I handled a couple of them at his shop, and put in a request for one in CPM 154 with a file-worked tapered tang. I asked him to think light when he was making it, as I may wear it as a neck knife at times, but I was certain I could still count on Dylan to make it tough enough to handle any common tasks, and serve in contingencies.
I got the knife in June, I have carried it as an edc since then, and I am very well pleased with this knife.
First photos from the first day out with it, all shiny and new.
The specs
Overall Length..............................6.6 in / 16.7 cm
Blade Length................................3.2 in / 8.1 cm (tip to handle)
Handle length...............................3.4 in / 8.6 cm
Blade Thickness............................0.094 in / 2.4 mm
Blade Steel..................................CPM 154
I think it is a perfect size for discrete edc. The handle ends up being roughly a 3.5 finger handle for me, but still very comfortable in use the way it is shaped and contoured.
It came with a very nice edge.
It has been used a lot in my projects around the house, from feeding the birds to being used in the course of remodeling a kitchen.
It tucks away nicely in my camera case for storing. And has traveled all over a few towns with me at all hours of the day and night in the course of my urban photography sets and taking random photos.
I like the 24/7 so much, I had to pick up one of its big brothers, an Esteban 2, for heavier work. No review of it yet, only had it just over a week, but man I am digging it so far. Very nicely done Dylan!
