I wanted to bring some attention to a piece of gear I purchased that doesn't have a lot of recognition in the online community. I sought long for a hawk that has a specific shape and aggressive look that appeals to me yet is made of a quality steel by a reputable company (not some Chinese made ebay special with no warranty) and I found it in the 2 hawk long hunter. The only review on this hawk I could find was done by TheEnglishRedneck45 on youtube and there were a few details that made me wary but I purchased one on a whim. Without further delay here she is. (I apologize in advance for the bad lighting and the fuzziness as I don't have great lighting in my home and my tripod is at my fathers house but i tried to cover all the angles and spots of potential intrest)

Here is the makers stamps on the head and "LH" for long hunter and the serial

Here is the other side that is unmarked. I wish my camera did the beautiful gun barrel bluing justice. All of the reviews I have seen say that it isn't terribly sharp out of the box but mine shaved hair.

The handle is flame grained and looks (and smells) wonderful. Smooth to the touch and has absolutely no rough spots.

A rumor I've heard several times is that the fit of these handles is shoddy and that 2hawks even goes as far as putting leather in the "gap" between the head and haft to tighten it up but as you can see the fit is perfect.

The only blemish on my entire hawk is this spot where the bluing was scratched during the polishing of the handle but it is minor and doesnt bother me at all.

A shot of the haft fit from above. The finish is perfect and the grain is beautiful!

Here is a shot of some tools many people are familiar with (and I admit I'm showing off my favorites a bit) the overall of the hawk is just under 19". The head is 6" long and the cutting edge is 2.5" and 1/4 inch thick.

This is the sheath that 2hawks sent with my hawk. A nice touch since I didn't pay for it and a great example of their care for their customers. Devin hand wrote a note in the box and thanked me for my business and that he threw in the sheath for free!

Now I have heard also that their leather work is sub par but clearly mine came perfect as you will see in the next few pictures (although a bit dark for my taste since i wax my leather and it turned nearly black!)

That's all for now! Thanks for looking in advance and let me know if there is anything else you would like to see/know about.

Welcome....That is a very nice hawk you picked up. The fit and finish does look Great.
Thanks for showing !

Nice! I've been considering adding a hawk to my pack. Forgive me for asking but how much did this one cost?

Been seeing some 2 Hawks auctions on ebay lately, nice hawk.

BTW, your pics are fine, thanks for posting them, and congrats on getting your new tool.

Nice! I've been considering adding a hawk to my pack. Forgive me for asking but how much did this one cost?

I paid $140 usd for the hawk itself which Devin from 2hawks emailed me and said would take 4 weeks from order-completion. Mine arrived exactly 4 weeks later (would have been 3 weeks but his #2 looks like a backwards #6 on my address so my package was lost for a week...thanks USPS) and he threw in a free sheath.

Am I wrong or is the grain on the hawk handle going the wrong direction? (The weaker direction)

You are correct. This is my first chopper like this and someone else let me know about that. so far so good but if it breaks ill re-haft it correctly. Thanks for the heads up
