OK All,

It's now a done deal, the BK39 will be on its way next week...... Tell me what to expect? I have KOA, Esee, Tops Knives ranging from 4" to 6.5" I have always longed for something just a bit longer specifically for Just as a battoning tool. All said, never owned a Becker.. I have went back and forth with several really nice knives in consideration of a new purchase.

My Considerations Were:
#1) I love finger choil's to choke up on, However thinking about the bulk of this new knife's chores for me was not really necessary.
#2) I love Saber ground Blades, IMO they are the best at splitting timber, and I love to split timber, which the 39 has...
#3) My Price range was negotiable for the right knife and value, I would have purchased a much higher cost knife if IMO was worthy of its value for my use.
#4) I don't care to modify a Becker, although many do, that's fine.. All I want to do is what I intend it to do which is Batton the larger logs and I prefer uncoated knives, Raw is best but no black. The handle grip will not be an issue, I like wearing a gloves when using a larger knife at potential!
#5) I'm retired so its not like I have to hike a long distance into a campsite if I do not choose, "Weight not an Issue here", I can use within minimal distance from the campsite. The lightest weight is not necessary for me in this knife class.

Also a consideration of the knife and PERHAPS THE BIGGEST FOR ME
, is: I want a knife to use that is capable for my use and what I need that looks good but............. Not a knife that is capable and looks too good to use at a much higher price that ends up in my safe. I have too many of these already, and that is exactly why many can see me selling off many of my others:confused:. I'm still learning.

No disrespect of the other very fine offers available, just I am sure this was the right choice for me!
I have just begun my next chapter in this world so to say... Camping, and just getting out and "Smelling the Dirt" of the outdoors is my big thing, I am looking forward to it with another new companion BK39.........:D

Welcome and Congrats!

Clarification on #4) - the BK39 does have a coated blade but it's clear and smooth.

Awesome! Congrats! I remember the desert tan models and how much I drooled over them, but if this clear coat holds up I will definitely grab one as well as the new "4 sets of scales" package so I could change out the colors. Would love a first impressions post when it arrives!

CC, And it will not take long, As a first impression I think it will be in the same favor as the BK9 as not owning one as yet. However, I certainly can give an initial impression after I beat through several logs in the back yard towards the end of next week. I will be very observance of the Initial clear coat as well after several batons for the initial impressions of the blade.

All in all, personally for me, the blade finish is not that important... As long as I do not have to strip it! I'm thinking like anything else, any kind of coating is exactly that, a coating. Not steel but a respectable protectant to a point. This clear coat will wear off with use I am sure..So I do not mind the appearance as it wears.. I have plenty of time to wipe down the blade with a protectant as all 1095 require.

I will be doing the Foot hills trail here in NC/SC later in the month of Sep. and will be happy to give an unbiased review of what I think of the blade after 76 miles of trail and 5 days use. I intend to use it, if necessary abuse it, but foremost let it do what I needs to do. I certainly can take some before and after pics to illustrate any degradation of the blade or finish.

Sounds like you got it all worked out and made the right choice. The amount of use it sounds like it will see, you won't really have to worry much with upkeep. You'll keep any rust knocked off before it begins. Sounds like a great adventure, be sure to report back during or after your trip. We love some pics!
Welcome! Be sure to snatch up a tweener and a necker for your trip!

ETA: Ya know, with all these Beckerheads here, there's been no real review of the 39. You'll be the first TD, I'm sure we'll all be on the look out.

Be great to finally see a review on the coating of these blades. Hope you can stick around tiny.

Hey Tiny.......

Welcome....... I hope your new 39 wildly exceeds your expectations....... I would like to thank you for your business...... I am looking forward to your review and impressions.......

I'm going to have to pick one of these up. Just from using the 32 for a while I know that thing is a monster.

Congrats on the new nine. Curious as to how the clear coat holds up. I can't imagine it will be anywhere close to being as tough as the regular coating. After my coating started to wear off pretty good I just sanded it off. I guess I like them naked.

Welcome aboard shipmate.

Considering your other knives, you made a great choice.
Come to think of it - you made a great choice irrespective of your other knives!:D

When you finally get your BK9 (or 39 in this case) your tires will wear more evenly, your home will be 3% less likely to be struck by falling space debris (be sure to notify your home insurance provider for a discount!) and while you won't be able to command the loyalty of forest creatures, they are more likely to listen to your suggestions. Also, legend has it that there is a mysterious doughnut shop deep in the woods that gives a 10% discount on fritters to anyone who owns a 9, if you can find the place.

And I hear they're not bad at cutting things either. I wouldn't know, never used it for that. I just really like apple fritters.

You need a BK9. You can't not have a 9.

Well folks, it seems it may be next week before I see this one. Since Friday last week our PO has circulated the parcel in a circle. I live in the deep south, It left NY, Arrived in MA. Left MA, arrived in NJ. has not tracking on it since then. You have to love the notification sytem they have. (2) days after it was supposed to be delivered we get a notification it will be late, but no expected delivery date. Ah I will be patient, no biggie..

Ugh, that's frustrating. Plenty of stories about that. I just don't get it sometimes...
It's great that ur patient, not all of us are, esp when it comes to Beckers!

I don't understand what this means. Is such a thing even possible?

Actually, it is terrible..... However, as I get older I can get just a bit more. Just my posting this frustration it made me feel better (-: Anyway seems the it is headed in the right direction today, maybe by this weekend:thumbup:

Had the same thing happen. I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks these days for tracking peace of mind.

Hey All!

The BK39 arrived yesterday. I will be happy with this one, especially for the value. Quick thoughts and observations..... The coating is not what I would have thought. It is actually not clear IMO but a Transparent shade of brown. I wacked the knife (4) times on the standard priority mail shipping box and you can see how it will hold up. I was a bit surprised, Initially thought it might have been the tape from the box, nope coating is gone where you can see the marks. I think overall it should give adequate protection to the blade but there are plenty of coatings that are far tougher. Interesting enough all the packing came with BK39 but the marking on the blade indicates BK9.

All said, I could care less about coating in general. Any knife like this will be used for what it can do and will get scratched. I am very happy I do not have to strip the Black. If the opportunity arose I would prefer to buy one with no coating. It will be a bit but I will get a chance very soon to use it for what I intended it for and will provide additional pics and thoughts then..... Very Happy with purchase!:D
