About six months ago, I got the opportunity to borrow one of the early Bush Hermits from my good friend Peter. I wrote about that experience and how impressed I am with the Bush Hermit in this thread:
At the end of the thread, I mentioned that I had just scored my own burl handled Bush Hermit on a Fiddleback Friday thread. The purchase was a little unusual for me because I seldom buy wood handled knives any more. When I showed my wife pictures of the knife on the Friday thread, she said that was the most beautiful Fiddleback she had ever seen. She asked who the lucky person was who scored it. When I said me, she smiled and told me that she wanted it to be "her" first Fiddleback. Since she has always been supportive of my knife hobby, it was easy to say OK. I told her this is an excellent choice for her first Fiddleback.
I am still on the lookout for a tapered 1/8 Bush Hermit with synthetic handles to call my own. If anyone )) wants to sell one in black micarta with Koa bolsters, please let me know. Until then, the search continues.
i expect i will own a bush hermit one day. as B said, i am drawn to the handle shape. it looks like one i really want to try. the pics only affirm those thoughts. thanks.
Love this thread. The Bushhermit is my favorite model in a long time. I carry an Osage Orange dud that had tearout around the bullseye tube. For a long time I didn't think I'd come up with a better bushcrafting knife than the Bushfinger, but I think the Bushhermit is better.
Heck yeah Justen! That's got to be one of my favorite Fiddlebacks, to date. Glad to see it surface! Looks like you've been getting some use out of it!
