MEAT: Your maker!
I just completed this odd looking knife for our local butcher, and delivered it today. The strange shape is the result of a leftover piece of A2 I had kicking around, and although I'm not sure he's convinced it'll work for him, my fingers are crossed that it will.
The mortised handle is purple heart, (one of his favourite types of wood) and the spacers and liner are vulcanized fiber. The guard and pommel are also A2. I left the spine unfinished because I liked the look of the colouring left by my heat treatment.
This knife was a real challenge for this rookie, but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I left it rough around the edges- it's a working tool and I have lots of other projects in the works that I need to focus on. At this early stage in my knife making career, I'm not going to be too hard on myself for falling short of perfection
