The Cold Steel SR1 and SR1 Lite are the toughest and strongest folding knives in the world. I mean, these things are insane! With the sale of Cold Steel to another company, one can only hope that Lynn Thompson continues to be a strong influence. I've got the SR1 Lite, and it's just an utter beast, and I got for around 60 bucks!

A fixed blade is obviously preferable for a survival knife, but SR1/SR1 Lite would be maybe the top folding knife option as a survival knife in the world today. But, hey, don't take my word for how tough and strong they are. See for yourself...

So I take it that the AUS10 Voyager is no longer "THE BEST knife you can buy for the money".....?

LOL!! No, the AUS10 Voyager is still "THE BEST" knife you can buy for "50 bucks". It's a better all around knife because it's lighter and easier to carry, but "toughest" and "strongest" are different terms that you apparently don't comprehend the meaning of. You might benefit from a remedial reading comprehension course. Ha ha! ;)

I wonder if they were accidentally near a camp fire and melted if they would still be usable. I think a Buck 110 would still be salvaged. A Mercator for sure.
Well, I've never melted a knife handle while camping, and I've been camping many times. That's really not the kind of toughness I'm talking about. I'm talking about strength and durability, not what temperature threshold the handle melts at.

I hear ya. I’m just adding another metric that could be a factor.

I get a lot of joy and utility out of Cold Steel products. I carry and use them often. Definitely tough knives.

Well, after thinking about it, I can certainly see how a campfire mishap with a knife might occur though. It's an interesting point and something to consider. I'm glad it's never happened to me, but it's probably happened to some nice knives before.

Speaking of reading comprehension......

The Cold Steel Voyager in AUS10 steel is THE BEST knife you can buy for the money...........AUS10 steel is awesome, and for the money, you just cannot beat this knife.

SR1/SR1 Lite would be maybe the top folding knife option as a survival knife in the world today.
Since you can get either a large Voyager or an SR1 Lite for the same money, which is it......?

Right on.

I am just thinking back on how much gear I’ve burned up in a campfire. Sometimes wind blows things around, or stuff stuck into logs falls over.

Definitely stuff that could have been avoided but it happens.

In summary, you’ll find plenty of tough value folders in the Cold Steel lineup. I can think of just a few nitpicks why CS folding knives may not be for everyone: the heft, the big pocket footprint, stiff Tri-Ad lock (not as friendly as a liner lock), stiff pocket clip, brazenly tactical or outlandish designs which may put off some. These same nitpicks are what drew me to the knives in the first place. I’m a weird knife nut.

I’m sure the SR1 is awesome, but I’ve unfortunately yet to add it to my collection. As your other thread suggested, the Voyager line is excellent. So are the Recon 1 and Code 4 knives. The Recon 1 is my personal favorite.

I enjoy my sr1 lite, but if I had to choose between it and my ad10 or 4 max scout, it probably wouldn't get picked. The other 2 have better steel, better blade geometry, and in the case of the 4 max, only $30 more.

The sr1 lite is a fun knife to play with though. It's just way too thick behind the edge for any kind of slicing performance. Still amazing fun to beat on!

So you think 8Cr13MoV is most amazing steel in this World and in all other worlds around ?!
That's factually insane.

While things are a bit confusing right now with the ownership change of Cold Steel, I believe the SR1 is offered in S35VN
while the SR1 Lite is in 8Cr13Mov.
I'm sure they are very good solid knives as most CS knives are but personally I find the degree of excitement a bit overboard. lol
