So I got this packet in the mail today from the NRA. It's got a survey and incentives to join the NRA and all that stuff, but what surprised me the most was how cheap the free gift knife is if you join.

Since its stamped "stainless", I almost have to assume it's a really cheap chinese lock back. Could the NRA really not find an American made Buck or something similar for its "19.95 value gift"?

Now I'm normally not one to care about origin of a knife, but this is the NRA itself. You'd think they'd spring for something other than a cheap knock off.

They could care less, it's just marketing BS. As long as you sign up they're happy......

I get it, most gun guys aren't knife guys and they generally dont care. But still. Seems like a bit of extra effort wouldn't be a bad thing.

I actually found the opposite to be true. Just about every gun guy I know is also a knife guy to some extent. Not knife nerds, but definitely show interest in folding blades for EDC or hard use for the outdoors etc.

It is truly cheesy that the NRA offers up what is essentially a cheap NRA branded Schrade (most likely) traditional slip joint.

A few years back they sent out a supposedly American made buck. It was the worst knife I'd ever seen. The two sides of the handle weren't even lined up, the stop pin was crooked, the lock didn't actually lock and the blade looked like it had been ground by a blind, drunk manatee.

The last US made knife I got as a gift from the NRA was a very low end Colonial Cutlery slipjoint. That was about 15 years ago.
And the last decent one, was a Schrade stockman , that was back in the 1980's.
Now I'm a life member so I don't get any free knives....

Not American made, but I didnt expect a stellar free nra blade to begin with, this one stays at the office:

All the ones I know have a passing interest, but spending any more than 50 bucks blows their mind since they could put that towards a gun. They love all the ones I show off, but I wont catch any of them with a decent knife.

Hell most of them dont even carry knives.

The last knife that the NRA sent me was an Imperial, if my memory serves me. That was about 25 years ago and I gave it to my mother. My brother might still have it.

The NRA knife I received 4 mos. ago was from Bear & Sons, whose knives are "built" in the USA (we all know what that means): an American company who manufactures their knives in China. TBH, I just can't care that much. Trying to keep up with who does what and where is just too exhausting. Plus, it's our own fault for this. If politicians would stop encouraging states to pay 15.00 p/hr. for entry-level jobs, we wouldn't have to charge twice the price for anything made in the USA. That's a bit simplistic of course, but products made entirely in America are incredibly expensive for many common folk. What a mess we've gotten ourselves into.

I've been a Life Member of the NRA for over 30 yrs and I don't recall ever getting a free gift from them in all that time; just solicitations to send them more $.

Seriously sgt1372, I get so weary of the constant hands out. I know they rely entirely on donations, but their weekly emails make them seem hopelessly desperate. Maybe they are?

They could at least send a Rough Rider.
Still Chinese but actually a well made knife.

The last NRA knife I had was such a piece of crap I threw it away. I've had $5-10 gun show knives of better quality.

I'm in the same boat, and I've been a LIFE member for over 50 yrs. However, they are still the only large organization who are protecting my gun rights. No complaints from me.
