The History:
I am currently taking a statistics class and was looking for a way to make it interesting for me. So I decided to start compiling a GEC production database using the information provided on the GEC website. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that this might actually be something useful for everyone. So I started bringing it up in the "Let's Talk GEC" thread and provided some examples of the interesting stats available to me. It started to become apparent that there might be discrepancies in the production information and it would be worthwhile to get all those gathered in one place. The topic started gaining traction and it probably deserves a placeholder for a dedicated thread moving forward.
What I Hope to Accomplish:
1. Provide a gathering place to document known GEC production information errors or missing releases so that I can make corrections to the database.
2. Provide a place where I can also pose questions as I compile the database in an attempt to make it accurate. There is a wealth of information here between the threads and the folks on the Porch. For example, what are T-Pops?
3. Provide an avenue for me to share interesting data, trends and statistical information related to historical GEC production. There are many ways to slice and dice all of this data once I get it compiled. Here is an example of a dashboard I created along with a simple bar graph that shows the raw production totals. You can see that I still have a few years to work on but enough data is there already to show the long-term trends and some overall numbers.

4. What I am probably most excited to create is a quick-reference tool to look up information without having to comb through the GEC website production PDFs or images in the web menus. So I thought this thread would also be a great place to post questions that I could help answer using the database. E.g. Which patterns were produced in Tortoise Shell? How many different wood materials were used? What were all the different Northwoods patterns?
Aside from specific information look-up, here are some example distributions I can easily put together that might be fairly interesting:
Totals by Pattern
Totals by Material
Patterns by SFO
Materials by SFO
Totals by SFO
Unique Pattern Count
Unique Material Count
Unique Material List
Who knows where this all may lead but I think it will be an interesting way for me to get through this statistics class and also a very useful tool to share with you all.
Thanks!
