Saw one of these for sale on the Exchange and it piqued my interest.

As ridiculous as it seems initially, it's actually a nicely executed folding machete with an 11" D2 blade. The maker apparently created it to thumb his nose at German knife laws that apparently are similiar to those in CA (where I live) at least in so far as the concealability of "folders" is concerned. Here's a video that describes it:

It's available for "preorder" for $249 (plus tax & shipping) from the company's US based LLC located in Florida. Delivery is expected (or at least, hoped for) around Xmas. You can get a $10 discount if you sign up for their newsletter which you can unsubscribe from later.

I placed a preorder for one because it's different, doesn't cost that much and could actually be useful to carry while hunting/camping/hiking . . .
or just wandering around in my backyard. ;)

BTW, the preorder price is about 80% less than the €1199 (or $1183) that seller was asking for it on the Exchange and about 1/2 the asking price that I've seen for it on EB. So, best to buy it direct. Can't post a link to the sales site here but it's easy enough to find if you're interested.

I saw that but will stick with my Cold Steel Talwar. It's a shorter blade but it works for my hacking purposes. I would like to see one in person.

Cold Steel XL Espada is plenty big enough folder for me !

I've used it for a light to medium machete with no problem , although not really meant for that IMO .

OP folding machete is interesting and the inventor has long record of wacky weapons that work . So I expect this one would be functional as well . 🤔

I have to imagine that the mechanical advantage you'd get with an 11" lever would be rather hard on the pivot.

Guess that depends on how much/hard you use it but FWIW the blade/pivot seems strong enough for a few simple tests based on this video, startgin at about 2:56 mins:

Why D2 for a machete? Seems like a strange choice to me.

Making the point re: knife laws is pretty lame to me. Not an important law imo, not an interesting or novel point to make about the law if you find it important. Not even a novel idea/design for making the point. Just how it strikes me of course

3 and a half inches on the Espada XL, I would enjoy this simply because I am a fan of large folding blades.

My first large folder was a 6" "Verlangerungsmesser" clasp folding bowie type thing, but you could fold the clasp up into the handle and hold it locked.

Why not D2? Seems like a good choice between cost & performance to me.

As for the knife law angle, I think it's just a "marketing" ploy that (I agree) shouldn't matter unless, of course, you're into "concealed carry" of 11" long fixed blades where it may be prohibited (as it apparently is in Germany and California). LOL! ;)

D2 just isn't very tough, but it realistically doesn't matter I guess.
