I haven't used it in a while until last weekend and I'm pleased to say it's still the best large knife...I love that thing!

Who has one?

The 12 inch Ontario is a great piece of gear. Team it up with a sak and you have all the cutlery you'll need for 99% of your camping needs.

I like it for the thicker stuff, does a great job and I got a nice nylon sheath for it (from ontario) too.
We have a lot of black berry vines here (full of thorns) and I use the 18" tramontina for that
but when things get thicker, the 12 inch comes out!

The 12 inch Ontario is a great blade. I've used mine for everything from shelters to butchering deer.

A while back I did a video on the mods I do to mine

Machete Modifications

Cool!
I've been on a machete kick lately just finished re-handling three old machetes.
I've always liked the look of the 12 inch Ontario machete.
Can't seem to find a website that sells Ontario machetes AND ships to Canada AND uses U.S.P.S.
(U.P.S and Fed-ex charge 40-60$ brokerage fees on packages coming into Canada from the U.S.)

Not much luck finding Ontario's on Ebay either.
You can get Cold Steel machetes anywhere but Ontario's not so much.

I got the Ontario with the beaver tail, it really comes in handy when working close to the ground and digging. I wish that someone would come up with some leather or kydex sheaths instead of the p.o.s. sheaths thats supplied with the knife.

several of our good sheath makers have some sweet pants I've seen, they just cost more than the blade!

Dave at Defense Knife and Tool, who is a permanent fixture of the exchange's dealer section, ships US Postal to Canada--he recently shipped me up a SAK soldier--and stocks Ontario (and other) machetes. Give him a try.

I've made a few sheaths for the smaller machetes. Makes a big difference.

The 12" Ontario in all of its versions is a very useful camp knife. I just finished convexing a new one. Unfortunately, it cut right through the brand new Ontario sheath. Anybody got kydex for one?

Nice ! How did you get that nice finish on yours ?

Lots of sanding. It is really sharp. I got it with a brand new sheath and just got around to putting the convex edge on it. It was so sharp it sliced right through all those layers of rubber and cordura. Now I need a new sheath!

Yep, had one for several years. Its a great value I think. So low priced you never have to give a second thought to really putting it to work. I've done lots of cutting off saplings below ground in sandy soils of East Texas. Easy to keep wicked sharp. Very handy size. I've used mine for lots of trail building work. I'd think it would be a champ at shelter building with something like saplings and pine bows or palmetto fronds.
