Anyone familiar with this movie? It's a French production so sometimes it's hard to find info unless you use the french name (Le Dernier Trappeur) but it is in English and takes place in the Canadian Yukon.
It's hard to define the genre but it's a blend between live action and documentary, and heavily emphasizes themes like conservation through harvesting, the harsh conditions, and also the quickly disappearing lifestyle, there really are not that many full time trappers anymore.
Lots of cool survival stuff, including a great "emergency fire" scene, won't say any more than that.

Just found the directers next one, also looks pretty relevant.

Hey Liam. I have both the movie and the book, as seen below. Beautiful scenery.

Doc

Nicolas Vanier who realized the movie is a musher and has performed several expeditions and races in Siberia and Canada. I've seen the movie and liked it though i prefer documentaries when it comes to wildlife.

Doc,

You are the last trapper!

dantzk.

I bought the american titled version on dvd but it wont play in any of my dvd players including my region free one or my pc. It sucks cuz it doesn't say anywhere on the case or disc which region its made for. I am dying to see it and I have to look at it just sitting here day after day:grumpy: The same thing happened with my dvd for Happy People:A year in the tiaga, why can't these guys produce them in a region 1 version??? Its just not fair;)

I've got another of the directors books about himself called ' Otchum a companion in a world of ice ' great book !

I got mine from amazon. The seller swears the english titled copy is a region 2 but it won't play in the region 2 setting on my dvd player, yet all my region 2 Ray mears dvds play just fine.

I'd contact Amazon about getting a refund. They're real good about protecting the customer.

I like when the priest takes a dump off the canoe. :D
But yes, a great one for sure.

Ya that was hillarious. :D It was amazing that alliances could even form back in those days with such huge culture shock on the Euro and native sides.
