Liam Hoffman is now producing and selling Axe Handles!!

Check out this video where he announces this new product and talks about what makes a great handle.

Much of what he says has been said on the forum before but man is it refreshing to have someone making handles who actually knows what goes into a good handle. Incredible how young he is too and the knowledge he holds is immense.

Like all of his products they are mostly already sold out sadly but keep your eye on his website for when some new stock is available.

I just love what this guy is doing. He really understands axes and the history of them too.

One day I would like to get one of his 2.5lb camp axes on a 28" handle or the 4.5lb Farm Axe on a 32" handle. Haven't seen new stock available for over a year now though :\

I'm glad he's doing this service, it sure is nice if you don't have the luxury of going thru 20+ handles to find a good one with nice grain alignment and run out... but I also find that's half the fun. I mean we all do that right? I also usually sand down and thin out the handle, which is fun if you're into sanding.

Do your local hardware stores even stock large amounts of handles to select from anymore?

Yes! Mine does. Even 32 inch handles for singles and doubles (occasionally) along with miners axe handles and broad hatchet handles. Here's a stock pic from them. Ignore the yellow fiberglass ones, I've never seen 'em.

^ That sounds incredible.

I have 3 massive hardware stores a 20 minute drive apart from each other and they stock 36", 32" 28", 16" 14" single bit handles but only between 1 to 3 of each. Disgraceful. Iv'e been before and there has been one of each. Drove to the next one a few more but all of horrific condition and then drove to the next one much the same..and then drove 1 hour home emptied handed. You don't know how lucky you are!

They are Link brand handles and rumor is they are all the rejected handles from the US, the stuff you lot wouldn't consider a worthy handle! What a sick world we live in aye (or I live in haha).

I really wish home depot would carry some more options for length. I've found some(after sifting) really nice 36" curved hafts there. My local saw shop doesn't carry any. Therefore there aren't any to be had locally. I find it discouraging that all the nice ones online are constantly sold out. I'd love to buy some nice new ones! Folks that list on the 'bay rarely include the dimensions of the eye and don't often respond to inquiries. I've been lucky though, I have some really nice ones I've found.

Link handles are pretty crappy from what I have seen.Found one boys axe handle and a cruiser that are good.

I was at a local hardware store yesterday and looked over the Link handles. I found a cruiser and boy's axe handle in their selection but the others were not work buying. A couple of the 36" and maul handles I think I could have broken in the store over my knee.

Believe me, I know how lucky I am. I went from tractor supply with (junky) single and double bit handles period to that. They've even got scythe handles! About $90.00 but they have 'em. Also, it depends on what grade of link you get. Mine stocks blue sticker "regular" ones and green sticker "specialty" ones. Green stickers tend to have heartwood while blue stickers are creamy beautiful sapwood.

Mate the rejects we get don't even have stickers on them..

A friend of mine who worked at a hardware store here in NZ told me once that they received a container from the US with all sorts in it as well as a box of the link handles. When he went to unpack the box he discovered someone had written on the bottom of it in a sharpie 'Reject grade handles for country at bottom of the world'.
