The Rock's fire/rescue axe in the Skyscraper movie

I realize this is a long shot, but after seeing the Skyscraper movie with Dwayne Johnson, I've been looking to buy an axe like the one he "cut" the elevator cable with. I've searched thousands of axes online, and nothing. Description of the axe - the head has a standard axe blade on one side, a lumber ripping tool on the backside, and the bottom of the handle is a crowbar. It's approximately 32"- 34" long. There don't seem to be any rescue axes on the market with a combination of all 3 of those components. If anyone knows where I can buy one, or have one made, please let me know. Thanks!!

That one was totally just a prop.

There are some tactical breaching and demo tools with a similar configuration but you are right, the axe heads are not solid. This one is cool looking though!

You're probably right, it was just a prop. I was thinking how practical it would be to have an axe with that many rescue/survival options, to keep in the house. If someone were to manufacture it, they would probably make a lot of cheddar. Thanks for your response!

Gotta be a prop, I can't imagine anyone In their right mind who knows anything about axes actually wanting to make this thing.

isn't it an aluminium cast mock? like "real" crocodile dundee's knife?

It could be cast aluminum, but the more I look at this axe, the more I think it is not a prop. It would be just as much work to make the prop as to build the real thing. It may be one of those special-order things that come with the fancy glass cabinet. On the real life side of things, it would come in handy for someone like me who has done construction for most of their life. And, it's pretty badass looking. Who wouldn't want one, is the way I see it! At the same time, it's possible only 1 was made, which would still make it a prop.

I suppose it could be foam. On the other side of that coin, I could take this product https://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanley-FatMax-Xtreme-30-in-III-FuBar-55-120/203710083 which is very similar to what I'm looking for, cut the hammer off and weld an axe blade on, and the whole thing costs me little more than the foam axe in your link. Plus, swinging the real weight of an axe looks different than swinging something that weighs nothing, and the scene looks a lot more real. Just my 2 cents, I don't know anything about making movies. I appreciate your input.

As I reread my reply I sounded terse, my apologies.

Movie props like that are made super cheaply and easily made in-house by the production studios. It would take very little time and just a couple dollars for them to make that. But more importantly no metalwork skill. The same guy that made it in the am will make a laser gun after lunch.
Esecially now days, everything in movies is fake and those props look even faker in real life. It’s odd the props don’t even need to be that good and they work on screen, especially with lighting filters and cgi.

I could be wrong and am open to correction but I would be willing to bet that if I go toe-to-toe against The Rock with that thing and I’m using a whiffle ball bat, I win. ;)

Ok, I wouldn’t fight The Rock with a whiffle ball bat. LoL

Yeah, I would avoid fighting The Rock. Most people aren't going to win that one, wiffle bat or no :-) You may be right about all the foam props and whatnot, my only thought was that if I swing a wiffle bat, and then I swing a Louisville Slugger, it looks/feels totally different. The speed of the swing, the muscles in the arm, everything looks different. But I'm sure they can hide all that with video editing technology. Too bad we can't find out from someone who actually worked on set.

I have sent emails to both the Prop Director and the Prop Builder for Skyscraper. LoL But I am NOT optimistic about receiving a reply. o_O

Props that aren't going to be in a sequel or expected to rise rapidly in value will often be auctioned off, then they will hit secondary prop auction sites. People who buy props have their own forums where they display their items, places like yourprops.com for example. A little patience, a little google, and you might just find the actual thing proudly displayed on somebody's wall.

I will make one as soon as I finish building the Majors place. Should not be more than a few weeks before I finish. I just saw the movie and wanted one very much. Like you I searched for the axe to buy it. So I decided to make my own. Until now I have only made a few knives, 3 samurai swords mainly out of leaf springs and one small axe. Today is April 4th 2024. By the first or second week of May I should be finished with it. I will let you know once I finish. However I will tell you this the handle won’t be the same because the one on the Skyscraper movie is 3D printed and attached with a crowbar tip at the end. I will make a similar one.

Our renowned cutler Ricardo Vilar created an ax called "Harpia", for rescue.
