What's up knife nerds

Lol bit of click bait there in the title lol
But for real though... change my mind. Share your thoughts.

Also
Where can I find a stonewashed blade native 5 lw that's not maximet? It looks like all the newer models are satin.

My real EDC is the CRK small inkosi but it is an expensive knife

my other option for sub 3” edc is the Spyderco native

I had a lot of other sub 3” knives but the native 5 lw and the small inkosi are the two that are the best for me

The native 5 lw is still in an affordable price range and even if for me the we banter, the BM bugout, the CRK small sebenza and the Spyderco para 3 ( and a lot of others ;) ) have been challengers for a while… at the moment I only kept the native 5 lw.

I really like this knife. I have different steel versions but now I enjoy the spy 27 version

Amazing knife !

That's a good choice! I don't have one but I do have chap and a pm3 which are in many ways similar, love them both. Tough to choose a best but also tough to argue your assertion.

I prefer the ergos of the Para3 series:

The BD1N has pretty much the same finish as my Maxamet but I'm sure the two are worlds apart.

True true.
For me it's the native 5 lw, para 3 lw, and somehow the ad20.5 g10. I'm thinking that I'd like at least 3 to rotate through the workweek in order to prolong the life of the blades.

Have you tried the Applied Weapons tech scales for the native yet? They are are definitely worth it! They make the knife ergos feel as if it were an extention of your hand! The scales have really solidified the knifes place at the top for me. That and all the options for steels blade shape and overall dimensions.

I'm also using the spy27 currently. I'm impressed with it 👍.

The para 3 is a close second for me! The chap was cool too when I carried one it was designated as a social/off day carry.

I did prefer the ergos of the para 3 lw over the native until I added the Applied Weapons tech scales. Now it's a step above. Still a close second though! The Native, para 3, and the ad20.5 g10 are my current work day edc rotation.

I've come to the conclusion that there's no rhyme nor reason to which Spyderco models I prefer. For some reason the Native 5 just doesn't sing to me, even though I respect the fact that it's a favorite to many. I really like my Lil' Native though, and I'm a big fan of the Para 3 (I like the LW over the standard in this instance but I can't say why). Before you go thinking it's just the compression lock, which I do admit that I like, I also prefer the Delica to the Native 5.

Then there's the much loved PM2. Like some of us out there I vastly prefer the Manix 2. Nothing too unusual there. However I really dig the Stretch 2 LW, which is said to be very similar to the PM2; and as I said before I love the Para 3, even though I typically prefer larger knives to smaller ones.

Point being, 🤷‍♂️

I guess that's a good reason why so many of us are so fond of Spyderco. They just provide so many superb cutting tools in a such a vast array of great steels that we can all find something that seems perfect to us, then nerd out on the nuances.

Well said friend well said! I agree with you there. I also prefer the para 3 lw over the og model as well as the manix 2 over the pm2 cheers 🍻 perfect pics to drive your point home!
Do you do the modding yourself?

I've tried Spydercos. I can't get used to the "bump" that encloses the Spyderhole (TM). Not sure why, just lost interest in thumb-ramp-type spine shapes. I like the spine of the blade to be in-line or drop away from the handle line, 'cause I have short fingers, and its easier that way to choke up on the blade.

The biggest no-sell for me about them is the very thin blade tips. I'm not hard on my knives, but I'm willing to come down somewhere toward the "durability" side of the durability:cutting performance ratio, because... stuff happens, ya know? For me, Spydercos are too far toward the cutting performance side of that bell curve.

As for changing your mind? Not even gonna try! This is a big tent, with room for everybody. I'm just some guy with An Opinion on The Internet, and we all know how much that's worth!

Obviously, I can't change you mind.

What do you use your EDC for?

What other knives have you used?

Why didn't those knives work for you?

[Sorry, I'm a collector/user, so I ask a lot of questions.]

Sounds like the native 5 might be worth a try for you. It has no "bump" and the spine is in line with the handle 👍
Not much I can say about the thin blade tips other than when I broke the tip on my delica while prying a staple I decided I would no longer pry with my knives. I'm a refrigeration service tech so I edc a 6 in 1 screw driver that does all my prying tasks.

Plastic scales, blade is too thick for the length, pocket hog, back lock when everybody knows that the frame lock is the greatest lock ever, ridiculous forward choil and the blade has a hole in it.
And it’s ugly.
Lol 😆 finally someone just comes right out and says it like it is. Great way to add to the thread 👏

Awt scales on it take care of the plastic although I do enjoy the benefits of the bidirectional texture and the light weight. Also there's a g10 option

I like the audible click from the lock back and the old school feel of the action.

Yes framework are the "best" as long as your hold fingers just right 👌 and hope you don't get lock stick or lock rock 😉 I do carry an xm-18 so I have love for the frame locks too.

I agree, the hole in the blade is just flat out weird! That being said some would add function over form. With sweaty hands or gloves there's no fighting with a thumbstud and no thumbstud in the way of the cutting path.

Esthetically... there are much better looking knives for sure.

Thanks! Yea, I do it myself. It's not something I claim any expertise on, I just come up with these ideas and hack my way through. I highly suggest trying if you're so inclined, and there's plenty of tutorials out there should you decide to give it a shot (including many on stonewashing ;)) .

Since you mention being a fan of the 20.5, here's mine. Started as "Jade" Grivory before the dye job, then brushed the flats, and flamed the hardware on my gas stove.

Lol most likely true but I figured it might be a fun post 🍻

I use my edc knife for Cutting tape, plastic straps, pipe insulation, wire insulation, opening packaging

So many knives! I think ive been at this whole knife aquisition/collectin/user thing for about 10 years. I've tried big to med to small. My sweet spot is around 3" blade with 4" handle.

"Why didn't those work for me?" Now that is a good question! So much to say there over a 10 year period. Everything comes into play. Weight, dimension, steel, materials, fit and finish, action, control, and ergos to name a few.
