The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

I have some moderate hoarding tendencies when it comes to knives. I've only ever moved a blade if a really special deal presented itself.

Based on the behavior of some of my favorite forum members I've toyed with the idea of starting a knife leasing operation :D

I'm also like You Silver Fox! I'm a hoarder when it comes to my own fixed blade faves, but I have been known to let go of my folders rather quickly because I'm very fickle when it comes to them folding types

Hey, Casino...Talk about "fickle"? That's me, too. My tastes run from A to Z and I try to sample most things in-between...whether fixed or folder.
I'm a hoarder, but they still come and go pretty quickly. A hoarding instinct that changes with the wind.
I will say, however, that Survive has always been one of my favorites. I became enamored early on, when Guy made that video (in Pa) where he used the 5 lb sledge on the spine of his 3V fixed blade to hammer it through thick tree limbs...with no damage to the blade. And, of course, the one where he trusts his life to his 3V when he lowers himself off of a cliff...with his body weight entrusted to the lateral strength of his blade.
I've owned quite a few Survive knives; sold a few; gifted some to family, and I only have three left. But I value those three, and they represent where my tastes reside...at the present.

I still have my first Survive knife I bought from Survive. A 4.1 second, that like many others, I'll be damn if I can find the flaw. I have the original neon green G10 slabs w/bow drill, gimping, and ferro notch. Factory black Kydex. 3V steel.
BUT.......this one MIGHT go bye-bye if I get my hands on a new spec 4.1 in 3V and like it better.
And then again maybe not. :)

I just saw this post addressed at me :)

I used to be one of these guys who used to buy folders in the $30 - $50 range in the distant past, before I became a so-called "knife aficionado" after I started hanging around with the enabling types which populate the Blade Forums ;) Thereafter, I started dabbling in folders > $100 which quickly escalated to folders > $200 and at the height of my Ti scaled folder addiction, a couple of CRKs just south of 5 Bill$. At one point, I even had the lust to go after an almost $1K Shirogorov but then... I just realized that this lusting after folders and deciding as to what and which tone to have and carry in my so-called "rotation" was just very silly because I am neither a tradesman or someone who currently has an insatiable need and appetite for using folders. Lo$$ truly is a great educator so I let go of almost everything but my beast Spyderco Military (the KW exclusive S90V version which is no slouch even if compared to any Shiros) plus my trusted Delica and SAKs.

As for hoarding, the name of my game is fixed blades and as most know I have migrated to CPK because I'm both extremely impatient and have better ways of getting Nathan's knives in shorter periods of time. That said, I would never poo-poo my old friends on here and wish that S! pulls through and that all my friends on here get their GSOs which they have set both their hearts and fund$ on :)

That's what makes it fun...the uncertainty of what lies just beyond the corner...
Ain't it the truth brother, ain't it the truth.
Just when you think you've found the Holy Grail of knives and the search is over.....it never ends.
What did you say about it Jonny?

Hey Team Survive! I think everybody here knows that I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to Survive knives, but why all of a sudden are we seeing what I think are a lot of them for sale in the exchange?
It seems to me back in the summer, members were on the lookout for other members. Now there's a plethora? I don't get it? Or is there nothing to get?
Sometimes where I work my co-worker says, Uncle Tim, you're over-thinking it. Is that the case here? Just curious.

I don't check out the exchange all that often, especially compared to those more active with buying and selling, but I haven't picked up on any wildly varying trends. It seems like I can usually find a GSO or two on the first few pages of the exchange. At the moment there are more. Some folks ready to sell and plenty who are willing to buy.

I'd still be interested to hear what others have noticed.

Kinda seems like it goes in waves. When CPK or Busse have something available there's more movement on the exchange to generate funds for those sales, or the aftermath of those sales :D Nate just sold some of the big behemoth choppers, and Jerry is in the second half of Operation Two Weeks, so there's been a knife a week (at least) offered by Busse.

Just like knife buying habits. Too many knives and not enough money. There's a Dog Soldier in the config that I like for sale, but can't really swing it right now!

I just sold an old spec 5.1. I’d odont think there’s a concrete reason. Just reorganizing for me. I buy when I see a good deal then a few weeks later, I take inventory.

Or I’ll buy a few like blades and then decide which stays. With the 5.1, I like the 5 better, so I’ll keep it until something beats it out.

Seems like there have been a higher number in the past couple weeks on the exchange and over on the FB fan page. In the past few years I've seen this happen every now and then. Next it will be a 4 month stretch were it seems like none of come available and guys will be asking to keep an eye out for something. It happens...

It all makes sense you bunch of wackos. ;)
And I'm right up there with everybody.
Jonny coined it!
