It's easy and it's cheap and it's fast and it requires no special tool or talent.

It is really obvious (and, in hindsight, brilliant) ... perhaps so obvious that it might actually be easily overlooked. Unless there's a sudden thinking-outside-the-box epiphany ...

I took a short piece of thin (maybe 2mm) red nylon kernmantle cord (coincidentally from the lanyard which I'd removed from my great little Mora Light My Fire knife) and threaded it through the two holes (for drainage and/or adding a neck cord) in the bottom of the Eldris sheath. I fastened the two ends together with the perfect knot for this purpose. I cannot remember its name, but it consists of a loose overhand knot in each end that is snugged up and then are drawn together until they jam together. Bombproof and nicely symmetrical.

The loop is intentionally very small ... about the size of a quarter ... with the barrel-shaped jam-knot naturally hanging at the bottom.

Voilá ... you're done.

I am retired and live in assorted nice overalls from Carhartt and Dickies, and the Eldris rides perfectly in a front pocket or (better yet) the usual thigh-high knife/ruler vertical pocket alongside the outside seam on the right leg.

It really doesn't matter how or where the little knife is carried or stashed or stored ... in a cubby on a boat or a vehicle's console ... but now it can be grabbed and opened with just one hand ... which might come in handy someday ... when your other hand is holding a beer, or jammed down a bear's throat.

Edit: Just a gentle tug on the loop using your teeth ...

I think he is describing a toggle-loop as a means of securing the sheath to something so that the knife can be drawn from the sheath without the sheath coming with it...?

Like to a belt loop? That's what I was thinking too.

I have seen that done with sheathes before...does it have a name? Seems like it...

I think the "All Gods creatures have teeth/claws" is a Sal thing, but he may have picked it up from somewhere.

As an aside, a #1 s-biner will fit those holes nicely as well.

The knot is called a fisherman's knot, if I am picturing it correctly.

Yes fishmans knot, beat me to it by 20 minutes.
I don't know about revolutionary but sounds like it work.

Based on stuff that I have learned throughout the day, here's a "better" version of the original post. Thanks to the folks who "chimed in" with help ...

http://www.101knots.com/fishermans-knot.html A "Double Fisherman's Knot" would probably have been better.

The loop is intentionally very small ... about the size of a quarter ... with the barrel-shaped jam-knot naturally situated at the bottom.

I am retired and live in assorted nice oddly-coloured overalls from Carhartt and Dickies, and the Eldris knife rides perfectly in a front pocket or or (better yet) the usual thigh-high knife/ruler vertical pocket alongside the outside seam on the right leg.

Still wondering? Pick up (or grab/extract) the knife/sheath package in your free hand. Poke bottom-end of sheath carefully into corresponding side of yer open mouth. Molar-munch down gently onto the small loop ... remove knife from sheath with a minor tug ...
