Thinking about a pocket Wharncliffe... Delica, perhaps?

Hey folks... long time no see. But I'm back after a long absence - hello, hello!

I've finally discovered how much I like the Wharncliffe design... I stumbled onto the CRKT Folt Minimalist Wharncliffe and found it to be an awesome little utility/package/box knife.

Now, I'm thinking about a somewhat larger Wharncliffe for EDC. The Delica Wharncliffe comes to mind. I know how nice Delicas are!

Your thoughts on that choice? Or, recommendations for another Wharncliffe folder?

Wharncliffe delica is a great choice. I gave it away as it became my go to do it all knife and i stopped carrying other knives.

I prefer to rotate my edcs but whenever o get the wharnie delica around it becomes a solo carry basically. I saw that some ppl took a belt sander to the spine to make it more compact.

I agree, the delica wharn is just too fat as is... instead of having to mod it, whynot get a kershaw leek? They're extremely minimalist, excellent small wharny, 14c28n with a solid heat treatment. I can hardly find a fault with it after many months of edc'ing & use

Honestly the only drawback is if you dislike assisted flippers.. but they're fairly easy to de-assist

Or you could go even fatter on the blade..... the Cold Steel Tuff-lite is a great utility knife, it's inexpensive, and it easily takes and holds a shaving-sharp edge. If you really like the wharncliffe blade shape, then any straight-bladed folder can become one with a little careful grinder time. It's fun and surprisingly easy.

the delica and the tuff life are both excellent choices, they dont cost too much so get both if you can

if you need something larger go with the endura wharncliffe, i have a serrated one and its one of my favorite edc's currently

Wow... taking a belt sander to the spine? I have a "regular" Delica with G10 scales... I don't find the size/form factor to be an issue at all. Is the Wharncliffe version any different aside from the blade shape?

dirc... the Leek is a cool, sleek, sexy little thing of beauty! I have one, in fact. Have had for many years.

I guess I'm just thinking of getting something slightly more "robust", shall we say.

BS... I've been looking at the Cold Steel Tuff-lite! And, I like what I see. The price is right, at the very least. So, you give it a thumbs up???

Haha... I'm not quite at the stage where I'm converting blades with bellies to Wharncliffe "straight razors".

But.... hmmmmm, now that I think about it, I have some unused knives that just might be candidates! Freaky, but you've got me thinking waaay outside of the box NOW!

Just grind the curved belly down to a straight edge, then but an beveled edge on it? I don't know that I have that competency... right off, any way. :D

But I AM just the sort to dive in, give it a "go", and modify things! I'll need a grinder first, though. Dang, you have my mind spinning now!

JW... getting both a Delica Wharncliffe and a Cold Steel Tuff Life may be JUST the ticket. Endura is great, but much larger than I would like.

As far as the Cold Steel Tuff Lite goes... what about the CJRB Cutlery Crag?

I know... the Crag has a 1" longer blade which isn't quite the "straight edge" that the Tuff Lite has - it has a slight belly. A good bit larger.

That razor-straight edge is a dream for sharpening. And for many types or cutting, as well.

I think I'm about to become a Wharncliffe fanatic. :)

The Delica Wharncliffe and Cold Steel Tuff Lite knives, as a team, would definitely do the trick!

Any love for the Yojimbo 2? I bought that knife on impulse and I absolutely love it. Very comfortable in the hand, and the added convenience of the spydie compression lock

My favorite Wharncliffe is the Spyderco Kiwi. Sadly discontinued now but still available on the secondary market.

Love me some wharnie. I don't have the 2 you've mentioned buying but they look sweet. Been carrying this one with a Buck 110 for backup and a leatherman super tool 300 as my work setup for awhile now.

The CS Tuff lite is a great little knife but the cutting edge is 2 inches. It might be smaller then you think.

The Spyderco Delica wharn is a great knife. That would be my first choice too.

If you want something less expensive then the Delica, maybe the Bestech Barracuda would fit. 3" cutting of D2. Bestech has a pretty good rep for a budget knife.

Same goes for Artisan Cutlery.

I'm a wharnie nut btw.
Here are some of mine in some wharni shape or wharnie foot combo that are in my weekly rotation, carrying the top flipper blue Metamorph 2 today!
