Thoughts on Cases G10 line.

This has been in my Blade HQ wishlist for a while. I like it because it's large, I like the black on sliver contrast, and I like the fact that it isn't jigged animal part or wood so basically a modernish slip joint. I have avoided case in the past because $50 and made in the USA screams at least to me not very good but I have been surprised by Bucks before.

If you've had one of these are they more comparable to Buck, GEC, or the Germans?

I have a Case Back Pocket in G10, and like the picture above it has the satin finished blades instead of high polished blades. I think they call it "as ground"
The G10 is very smooth , almost like carbon fiber and the fit and finish is excellent.

I am overall not a huge fan of Case, but this line turned out well. I am fortunate that the local feed store (yes, feed store:))has a huge selection of Case products for me to look over when I am in there. As mentioned above, the finish is nice for the most part and the color combo works well.

They have a "gas station" around here that sells a lot of case knives and other knives. When it's 10pm and i feel like going to a "knife store" i head there. Nothing like a late night slip joint impulse buy. Prices are decent enough for a store. Blades and beer in one go.

Klondyke, by chance? Stumbled upon that place late one night when the baby couldn't sleep. The place is... interesting, to put it lightly.

I have a G10 Peanut that I like quite a bit. It doesn't get carried much but the color and texture are a nice deviation from the Case norm.

The black g10 is somewhat reminiscent of the old slick black handles used by case and many others, I like slick black quite well. This is sort of a modern rendition, it looks nice. I've always thought modern cases were a good value, usually about half as much as a GEC but much better than half as good.

I had a full size Black G10 Trapper just like that one. I thought it was a good knife. Only sold it because it was too large for me.

I still have a Black G10 Peanut. It's too small for me (dang, I'm picky) but I'm holding onto it partly for sentimental reasons and because it seems better made than my other Case Peanuts. It seems a little more "boxy" and a little more rugged than my bone handled Peanuts. I also have a Case/Ruger Peanut in Red G10 which I have the same opinion of.

I'm more than satisfied with the quality of all three of those Case G10 knives. I think you might like that Trapper. Hope so anyway.

Can't deny or confirm... They're not a BF supporter. Looks like you and I are in the same general area. I agree it's interesting and I've purchased a few case knives from them. Not many local places sell them. Back to the topic on hand. Smooth G10 is okay but i prefer smooth Micarta. I don't think case has ever done Micarta. I do like satin finishes though and i was tempted to pick up one of the carhartt models with the ducked bolsters or whatever they call it.

I had the humpback whittler with the G10. I ended up selling it and getting the humpback stockman instead since I preferred the blades on the stockman version. But I preferred the "as ground" finish on the g10 line. And the G10 covers are very nice. I wish they made the humpback stockman with the "as ground" blades and g10.... actually, I'd like to see many more of their patterns with this finish and material.

Have they used the satin finish on any other models?

Yes, but it's not what I would call a satin finish. It's a little different. Hard to capture in photos but the finish has a very slight texture for lack of a better word. You can see it pretty good in my Peanut photo above.

Here's a 2012 Stockman with bone handles and as ground blades.

And a 1974 Delrin Pen knife with as ground blades.

I don't have a Case with G-10 covers but have had several modern folders with G-10 scales and I do like it as a handle material. The only thing about it on a Case is just that when it comes to traditional knives I kind of really like traditional materials and Delrin and Corelon is what I believe I'd prefer. That said again I do like G-10 and this thread like so many others has got me thinking I need to try it before I make a decision about it. I guess I'll be adding something to my cart.

That's the spirit, Randy!:thumbup::D

Here's my Red G10 Ruger Peanut. High polished blades on this model.

I have one of the barehead slimline trappers in black G10. I like the understated color, and boy is that knife a workhorse!

I have a few Case knives in G10. It's a good solid cover material. I personally prefer micarta, but G10 is great too. My black Backpocket is a bit on the slick side for that particular pattern, but the Carhartt Rugged Duck G10 is pretty grippy. The orange Jr Scout was just too cool not to get. The stockman is my favorite of the bunch. The G10 and As Ground blades, combined with the uniquely shaped bolsters, is a great look. But I'm also a huge Carhartt fan. I may a few more G10 models that I haven't photographed.
