Now that I have come to terms with the fact that I'm a knife collector and not just a knife user. I'm pretty sure I will be buying a lot more Emerson's in the future. For the members of the Emerson organizations do you feel like they are worth joining? Do most people join both or just one?

Thank you,

Scott

If you're going to collect Emersons, especially the customs, the first thing you should do is join the USN. Then read every sticky and topic in the "Suspect Sanctum."

I've collected and used Emerson knives for about 15 years. Since I mostly collect his custom knives, I never joined the OBS or ECA. If you collect productions knifes and want to purchase the OBS knife or the ECA knives directly from EKI instead of the secondary market though, you definetly want to join those groups. The OBS folder is badass and rarely comes up for sale on the secondary market.

Good luck with the collection!

I'm a member of both, and I believe they are worth it. I joined the ECA because of the ability to purchase the newest runs of knives and request serial numbers before the general public. I haven't bought any special runs yet but the option was there. The Order of the Black Shamrock is only worth it if you believe in the ideals it stands for. I do, and I try to live my life by those ideals every day. If you are a fan of Emerson knives I suggest getting an ECA membership. If you believe in what the OBS stands for and want to be a positive member of a great organization, become a member of the OBS.

As far as the OBS knife, even for members it's extremely difficult to come by. Also, don't join the OBS just for a knife, that's not what it's about.

I think both groups have merit, but in all honestly I am not much of a joiner. Shamrock group have very good values.

Been invited to join many groups, turn down offers for nominations to groups that require sponsors, or sponsorship.

Let us know if you join.
Phill Hartsfield once told me he does belong to any groups or organizations. I wish I understood this wisdom sooner than I did.

You get 15% off a future purchase if you join the ECA. I saved over 30 bucks when I bought my A136 from EKI, and was able to pick out a number from the serial numbers available. I think that worked out well for me since the A136 was hard to find out of the ECA. You also get a shirt.

The OBS is somewhat like a touchstone for me,*a reminder to live by certain ideals.

15 % Discount is sweet music to my ears.

How do you join these groups, or is it a secret? Seriously, I have no idea and was curious.
What are the stipulations.

All you ned to do to join is buy a membership to each one on the Emerson website. The ECA membership is $50 and the OBS is $45 I think.
