Hi all just wondering the general thoughts on Kiku Matsuda knives? Held his "Nagi" model in the local knife shop and loved it. Just looking for general thoughts since I don't see much about them hear. Looking for feedback on actual use.

I have a few of his knives and have met him a few times also. I also have the pleasure of being able to handle many of his knives over the last few years. IMO they are well made and use good solid materials but some of the designs are a bit out there and not that usefull, just choose wisely.

I have one of his Yunagi knives...it is truly unique with its acid-type finish and I believe it would make an excellent compact camp knife if I could ever get myself to use it. It is very sharp.

If you're looking a for knife you aren't likely to see just about anybody else having, Matsuda is a definitely a solid choice.

Bingo.

I really like he backup series and also his karambit is superb, there are so many to choose from in his offerings, I agree pick wisely.

I have a Yunagi 2 and it is a fantastic knife; luckily I got it used so I am not afraid to use it! The OU31 steel holds an excellent edge and the convex grind on it is perfect. It is very well designed for it's use, which is as a compact combat/utility/survival knife. I agree though some of his designs are excellent if expensive users but some look more like "knife-art" than useful tools. He is certainly one of the worlds top makers, a real artist and an amazing craftsman. Think about what you want to do with it before you buy, and you will have a fine piece which will become an heirloom some day.

I really like the look of his new SWAT designs but they are very pricey, I guess due to the yen dollar exchange rate?

Everything went up 10% a month or so ago due to our devalued dollar. I remember picking up a few more pieces before it happened.

BTW, I have over 15 of his pieces now and every one of them is perfect.

Late I know, but this is the most recent thread on Kiku knives and I just ran across the last story. There have been 3 cases I've read about where Kiku's knives were actually put to hard use.

The first was this story here from Personal Defense world, the swat model in D2:

The second was from PeterPHWS doing some bushcraft work with the Daruma (OU31):

The last was on a russian forum where the OU31 blade chipped out from accidentally hitting goose bone? Not exactly sure but it was a kiku hunter model.
