Thoughts on the Case Large Stockman (16065)?

So I'm in the market for a classic/traditional folder with multiple blade options. Something in a similar vein to what my grandfather carried. I have a few dim memories of his pocket knife from when I was a child, and I'm trying to narrow down my choices to a knife in the same ballpark.

After searching around I found the Case Large Stockman. This one specifically: http://www.warriorsandwonders.com/Case_W.R._Sons/Case_16065_Stockman_Large_Jigged_Bone_Persimmon_Orange

It's as close as I can find, so I'd like to know if this model is pretty well-regarded. This will be my EDC, and although it won't be subjected to anything resembling "hard use", I'd like it to hold up through the years. I've read Case has a good track record, but is there anything I should know about the Large Stockman specifically?

Basically I want a larger, multi-blade, quality folder that looks like it could have been made in the first half of the twentieth century. I'm still new to this scene, so if I'm leaving out anything, let me know. Thanks in advance guys.

Do you happen to know the make and model of the stockman that your grandfather used? You might be able to find the exact knife.

Folks call that Case knife a "75 pattern". It's a big knife (4.25" closed). If you are new to knives you might try a few to see what size works well for you. For some it may be a bit too big for pocket carry. For others, it's just the right size.

Case also makes medium and small stock knives. Some of my personal favorites are the Case 6332 (3 5/8" closed) and Case 6347 (3 7/8" closed) from the 1940s-1970s. They can still be found in new condition. They're a bit smaller than the 75 pattern though. The old US made Schrade 8OT (4" closed) is also a favorite. Schrade went out of business and now the brand name is used on imports. You can still find some of the real Schrade knives. They'll be marked USA on the tang. The Buck 301 (4" closed) is readily available. It's made in the USA but Buck also makes a similar knife overseas.... I think it may be model 371 if I recall correctly. And it may be hard to find but GEC's 81 "Abilene" stockman (4" closed) is a very nice knife.

Case's '75 pattern Large Stockman is my favorite large slipjoint. The model number you referenced there is the Persimmon Orange bone with the shot-shell shield. I have the Purple Haze bone and Amber Bone CV versions.

Case's full hollow grind really shows its stuff on the larger blades of that knife. All of the blades are lasers on mine. I barely needed to touch up the edge when I first got it.

Great knives in my opinion.

The 6375 large Stockman is one of my favs. I've carried one pretty extensively. It's a big, sturdy knife I can assure you. If you're used to folders this size it's a great, quality knife. If you're not sure or haven't carried one this size just realize - it's BIG. I wear Carhartt type work pants with cargo pockets 90% of the time, so my pockets are roomy. I always carry it in the right front pocket and it's not at all been bothersome for me there. Others might find it far too bulky. If you wear more dressy or casual slacks rather than sturdy work clothes this knife might be less comfortable.

It's a great knife and I like it's choice of blades. I find it a good quality and well made tool.

Funny you should mention it because I just this minute pocketed a Case Lge Stocky-
The one on the far right which started life as the same one shown by Arizonaranchman-
I dyed it red.
The one second from left is an Abilene #81 by GEC as mentioned earlier by Jake-mine is copperhead jigged bone -a real beauty.

The Case 75 and 92 patterns are two of my favourite large stockman patterns.

I also love the S&M reverse gunstock stockman.

I like the big, broad sheepfoot on it especially. The clip main blade is 3.25" long, in case that's an issue.

Buck and Case make nice Full size stockman. IF you want to look around you can find Western, Callimus, Old Timer , Imperial and Colonial Stockmans

Few photos to help with size comparison. Beautiful knife but a pocket full to carry.

Case 6375 with a quarter.

Case 6375 with a slightly smaller USA made Old Timer 80T

Thanks for all the insight guys, and the photos are extremely helpful (not to mention beautiful).

The model I'm looking at does seem pretty big and beefy, but I'm a giant and I have HUGE hands so I think I'll be okay. I tend to wear work pants or jeans as opposed to slacks or dress pants, so I'm hoping I'll have sufficient pocket space. Unfortunately I don't recall the model number of my grandfather's knife, as I last saw the thing more than 30 years ago. I just barely remember the color and blade configuration. I'll have a look at the other brands mentioned above and see what I find, but I'm fairly certain Case is what I want. That sheepsfoot looks perfect, and 3.25 inches for the main blade is ideal, especially since where I live doesn't have length restrictions.

Keep the replies coming. I'm enjoying this!

It sounds like the Case 75 pattern may be right for you. But here's a photo of a few other stock knives and one cattle knife. The knife on the far right is a 1/4" bigger than the Case 75. It's made for Moore Maker by Queen and it measures 4 3/8" closed. It may be best to hand pick a knife made by Queen to make sure that the construction is acceptable.

And if you want a giant knife, you might consider the 4 7/8" closed GEC 98. It's a cattle knife (equal end) though. Not a stockman (serpentine). Stock knives were designed to be a slimmer version of the cattle knife so they share the same lineage.

Case has offered many sizes of the Stockman pattern; 33 on the top, 75 on the bottom - there is something for everyone in their size offerings (and I don't have them all in this picture). I like a big knife like the Case 75 pattern or Buck 307 for hunting - they carry fine in the front jeans pocket. OH

Not to throw you off track, but Schrade USA made many Stockman pattern knives too - one even bigger than the biggest Case. OH

Yes it is, the Old Timer 858 Lumberjack is 4-5/8" OAL while the Case 75 Large Stockman is 4-1/4" OAL. Here are a couple of comparison photos taken with a 3-7/8" OAL Schrade 8OT. OH

I haven't the slightest clue why Case discontinued the 6392 model. The 6375 I handled one and for the life of me I just didn't like it.It seemed wider and yeah you get more edge but chunky feeling in my jeans pocket.Makes no sense why Case discontinued the 4" Stockman.
