Thoughts on the Luminox Navy Seals watch plus need advice

I've had my new/used Luminox "Navy Seals" (is that the 3101, maybe?) for quite a few months now, and I love it. The twisty thing (is that a bezel? I failed Watch Anatomy 101, I guess!) is loose on mine and rattles a bit, but otherwise I love this watch. I recently obtained a Seiko Titanium perpetual calendar watch and I can't hardly bring myself to wear it instead of the Luminox!

The only other downside is that I tend to pull on the rubber strap to move the little strap-keeper back a little, and it's starting to tear in the corners. I assume the way to go as far as a replacement strap is the Zulu band, huh? Any other recommendations as far as bands/straps?

Anyway, I can't believe how much I like this watch. Ironically, of the three watches I've owned in the past year, a $13 Timex digital, the Luminox and the Seiko, the numbers of positive comments I've had from people-not-in-the-know when it comes to watches ranks out like this:

1) By far, the Timex got most positive comments!
2) Seiko
3) Luminox. In fact, not a single person has ever said a single thing to me about this watch. Maybe that's good?

The funny thing is about Luminox Navy SEAL watches is that the Navy doesn't endorse Luminox or issue that brand. In fact they use an issued version of a G-Shock perhaps made my Casio if I recall correctly.

Yeah. Still a good watch, though, IMHO. I'd like it better sans "Navy Seals" on it, though.

I'm curious, what kind of Navy Seal watch (case, bezel, strap material, and model?) I keep thinking about getting one (Steel/carbon fiber, with rubber strap) but am used to Seiko divers. I keep hearing the Luminox watches don't hold up as well, what's your opinion? I want more info before I buy one.

Your perpetual seiko should be good to +/- 20 seconds a YEAR. (Why they don't advertise this more I do not know.)

Most quartz watches (including atomic[really radio-controlled] ones if they don't get the signal) are +/- 15 seconds per month...

just FYI :)

Where did you get this information? It seems any brand now days will use a special forces unit as a selling point.

Since we are on the subject of watches... are their any good review sites for watches? Are Casio G-shocks good watches for the price? I am thinking about getting one.

Thanks for the info.

Yip, that's the G-shock model the SEALs are issued. (my info from a current Navy SEAL)

They apparently did try out the Luminox for a little while a few years ago, but quickly realized they weren't going to hold up.

Now they use that G-shock TOMBSTONE posted, and also Suunto for certain operations too. Others buy their own watches.

Some of the old SEAL members even still have their old Tudor Submariners, and Seiko divers.
------------------------------------------------

I ain't no SEAL, but I use a Seiko classic diver watch, skx 007 k2 with a jubilee bracelet, and it's been holding up extremely well through some HEAVY use. And trust me, I use my gear REALLY HARD.

Accuracy is about 8 seconds a month too fast, but I can live with it.

I've had it for over half a year now, and it looks newer than what my G-shock used to look like after the same amount of time. It's not too bad!

Spydiefan, it sounds like I have the exact one you are looking for. Other than the rattly bezel, mine is great. I got it used, so I'm not sure if the bezel rattles on these as a rule, or if something happened to it in it's past life. Mine has what I assume is the stock rubber bracelet, but I'll probably upgrade to the Zulu band now that it's starting to deteriorate. I wear it all day, in the shop making knives, etc. I try not to run myself into walls and such, and I can't say I've addedd to the scratches on the surface, but certainly I don't think it would be tough to seriously damage the crystal since it sits flush with the bezel. For what I use it for, it's a great watch and I like the looks of it. If I get another one I'd go with the exact same watch, only I'd get it without the Navy Seals writing on it. Or, better yet, I'd get the Bill Yao version!

I own a luminox navy seals, my favorite watch. Favorite, because I can read it in absolute darkness. I took it for suba diving as well. However, for diving I still prefer my Citizen Promaster because it has a depth meter and an ascent alert (just as a backup, in case the computer fails)

The titanium 3608 is my favorite Luminox, hard to find though.

Ya,I don't know if the model DW-6600 changed the style from what you posted to what I posted, but a SEAL did claim the version pictured is the model. In any case, any G-shock with DW-6600 model number is the issue watch along with a Suunto they utilize as Emanuel stated.
