Thinking of getting one of these, are you able to fit a standad militayy 1l canteen in the main pocket?

I had one but got rid of it after one use. It is very well built as with all Maxpedition stuff. However, I didn't like it. Filled with gear, it is too heavy and uncomfortable with that one strap. I'll stick to backpacks.

Don't get me wrong, I will still be using backpacks, got 3 different sizes. What I want the carry bag for is something to chuck in the car for almost any occasion and something handy for short walks or spur of the moment walks ect. Would be looking at carrying 1L water, small survival kit, camera, couple of chocklet bars, lightweight ground sheet, phone and a knife or two.

It held a regular size Nalgene bottle just right. I still don't see it's benefit over a backpack even for what you intend to do with it. However, all have our own preferences so it might be good to you.

Persky, it sounds like a slinger would be good for your intended uses now that you've elaborated a bit.. I have a Malaga and move it around mostly with the carry handle, but the sling is there for short walks or just exploring around the corner. It will never replace the backpack for comfort as Ray has indicated, but they do have their place.

I have the Jumbo S type for my PSK. I love it. I don't use it often - but it is ALL there in case I do. It is a car kit that would be awesome if needed.

I transfer some of it to my pack when hiking and camping.

I was given a Maxpedition Jumbo Mursipack, last week. So far, I like it.

I agree with Ray about heavy-uncomfortable-one-strap, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any uses.

It has a side pocket that holds a 1 liter water bottle nicely.

I'm a fan of the gearslinger as long as you don't go too heavy. Like it as a camera or hunting bag, as in those cases I'm getting in it very often and don't have to take it all the way off. Being a lefty, the s-type also means that there is no strap on my shooting shoulder.

I tried the the Fatboy,Jumbo and Mongo

I sold all except for the Jumbo(Fatboy is too small--Mongo is like a Suitcase you carry)

The JUMBO is a Good size for exactly what you state you need

As long as you do not overload it--you will be happy

I like the way I can spin it around and get what I need without taking it off

I've also attached a cell phone and folding knife pouch to the front strap

I also carry a fixed blade in the front pouch outside of the main compartment

Thanks for the reply guys, still like the idea of the smaller bag, think I am going to have to try and look at them in peson to decide.

Well guys I went and checked out the Maxpedition gear today. Was an hour and a half drive to the shop, but Im glad I went and looked at the gear in person. I ended up going with the Fatboy S-Type, its is a smallis bag, but for what I wanted it is perfect.

I just finished loading it up now. Its currently holding;

500ml waterbottle
small ground sheet
toilet paper
sog para tool
LED torch (small but powerful)
camera
small hard case with matches plasters ect
couple of large bandaids
vasaline cotton balls in film container
some paracord
1 x bandage
glow stick
energy bar

and last but not least, I have my Bravo 1 in bushcraft sheath with fire steel, slid into the back zippered pouch. The back pouch easily fits knives of this size.

Thanks, for the help.

P.S This bag suits me, but I can see why most like the jumbo version, certainly gives that little extra room.
