Has anyone got one of these? I'm curious since they have the much-touted butane torch-o-burnination but with a flint instead of the wimp-tastic piezoelectric ignition

How do they stack up?

I have handled them they are interesting but not as reliable as I would like. They just dont run that well and can take many strikes to get running. Also the flame is non-adjustable preset at the factory. All in all I dont like them and wouldn't trust them at all

Do they leak fuel like the regular Zippo's do? After I heard that the Zippo's will lose their fuel in a few days, it greatly kept me from getting one since I dont want to refill it all the time.

I got two with zero problems i like them, not trusting a zippo, they have a good warranty if it fails send it back......

I hadn't heard of this model before,so I went to their site which has a video about the product. What caught my eye,was the fact it was flint operated like the old zippo and you could take the flint and striker out and, if necessary, use that like a sparklite.

I use a zippo daily and it will last on one tank for more than a week... Usually two to three weeks. Don't know who told you zippos run out in a few days but they either got a bad one or just don't know what they're talking about. But they aren't great for starting fires anyway.. they're smoking lighters... made for lighting cigarettes, cigars, and pipes. Anytime I've tried to light a fire with mine that big fat flame runs back up towards my fingers... bics are much better for starting fires cause they push out that small steady little flame... zippos are like small controled brush fires.

I got one when it first hit the market.

I have sent 4 back(life time warranty)nothing but problems.

The one I have now is also not working.

I am going to wait and let them work out the bugs then return once again.

The same problems have been reported all over the web.

I have had this problem with my Zippo lighters. I find that the fuel seems to evaporate in a couple of weeks or so and the lighter does not work anymore, even though I have not actually used it.

I have one - POS in my opinion. Doesn't work worth spit at any kind of altitude (kind of a big problem here), and the flame not being adjustable makes it pretty worthless also.

It's not worth the cost of postage or I'd offer to send it to you.

Now a few weeks I'd believe. They're not really made for long term storage while fueled... not exactly air tight either. Seriously... for a smoker they are wonderful lighters... but for an emergency, long-term storage type of fire making tool... there are much better designs... You can buy 40 bics for the cost of a good zippo... and they'll keep for at least a year... perhaps longer if you store them right. I know here in the georgia heat they run dry if stored in your car sometimes... not all the time... but sometimes. I bought a vacuum sealer a year ago and you can use one large bag and make multiple smaller ones... I will seal a bic in that thing and if the seal takes... I haven't had one die in storage on me... just make sure to put some sort of wedge under the gas pedal when you seal it... otherwise the bag might push the button and all of your fuel will slowly leak out and possibly pop that baggy. Vacuum bags are also how I store tender and cotton balls and such.

Have you seen the Spyderco Byrd Firebyrd tool? This innovative product is a great accessory that is fully compatible with the BIC lighter. It has three useful tools. These are a blade, money/belt clip and a bottle opener. It is constructed out of aluminum and steel and it is quite sturdy and well finished.

I have one of these and I think that it would certainly be a useful piece of kit to have around in an emergency or survival situation and I would imagine that it is probably legal for everyday carriage in almost every country in the world.

They suck the design sucks big time this is a case of trying way too hard to keep that classic look. I can tell you from personal experience that you will have a hard time lighting it. It took me 12 tries before I could light the damn thing. You need to keep in mind that I'm able to perform zippo tricks with a regular zippo, so it's not that I'm not familiar with them.

Yeah those little things are cool... I always meant to pick one up... I had forgotten all about them until you just mentioned it. Hmmmmmmm you may have just talked me into it LOL... It's not like people have to twist my arm to get me to buy a new toy.

I have never had a problem lighting mine on the first try, however when you try to keep the flame going for a little while like trying to light a large cigar then sometimes the flame goes out. While aiming the flame in a downward position the gas often rushes out and suffocates the flame. The flame is not adjustable and the flame burns alot of fuel. The fuel does not evaporate like it does in a regular zippo. Thie Blu was designed to be a smoke lighter and it excels at that but for use in the feild I still prefer a classic Bic.

LOL... found some for $12.95 each... so I bought two of them. Just in case one ever breaks.
