Anyone else try one of these? On a backpack trip this summer, I found a few ticks on me, one of them embedded in my knee. I know the proper method is a steady pull until the tick releases its head, and that's what I did using tweezers. That durn tick took forever though. It took a while to get the tweezers situated correctly, and once I started pulling, it took another three minutes or so for the tick to let go. Saw these at REI, and I grabbed one for my first aid kit. Just curious if they work as well as advertised.

They work very well, better than tweezers. Had a tick get me a few weeks ago and this removed the tick without destroying its head.

Good to hear, Ken. Thanks for the info. After your post, I pulled the trigger on a 6-pack of them to scatter around in the family's various kits.

I spend a lot of time outdoors camping and hunting, but have never had any issues with ticks. Just been really lucky I guess.
I think about it every time I am working on an animal though, and after seeing this little tool, I'm going to have to get one to keep in my pack.

I'm sure my luck won't hold out forever

I asked that question recently to guys who work in the woods , loggers etc. They say the best way is to use oil ! That's better than anything else. That way the tick comes out of the skin on it's own. No worry about parts of it staying in the skin to cause problems.

I just leave 'em in. They fall off eventually anyway and it beats trying to pull the little buggers out.

Nah, I've always just used tweezers but that gadget looks pretty useful. They don't usually have the chance to attach themselves to me before I feel them crawling and fling them off, whilst shuddering, like they are some kind of tiny alien nightmare. Then I've got the heebie-jeebies for the rest of the day. I seriously hate ticks.

Last summer, noticed a couple ticks on my ankle. Was at the airport, just about to mail my leatherman. Glad I didn't. All I remember about ticks were when my dogs got them, my parents would take a match, blow it out and IMMEDIATELY apply to the rear of the tick to make it release. Found an old guy smoking, asked him if I could borrow a match. He gave me his little box. I rolled up my pant leg, and went to town. Took about 5 because the little buggers kept reattaching, until I used my the knife and match together- burn it out, flick it off. Needless to say, I burned some leg hair off. It was quite a sight.

Will have to check out these easier methods.

I usually just curl up in the fetal position and start crying until someone comes and saves me...

These look like good tools. I'll be getting some before next spring...

Thanks for the heads up!
