As far as Cheaper knives go.. This one made my carry list.. And let me start off by saying, I know, I know!!! ;) It's a China knife.. and I have had my fill with them, but on the other hand I feel there is a place for a nice cheapo that works and this one fits the bill! And I just wanted to share with you all my experience incase someone else was wondering about them as well...
I have my benchmade's, SOG's and Spyderco's and love them and this one is not even close to the quality.. well it is kinda close.. As close as I have ever seen in a Spring assist affordable china type knife.. and it impressed me enough to do a review on it.. ok that being said..

Here it is...

The blade steel is awesome... I have carried this thing for 2 weeks now and it is still razor sharp... The assist action is amazing.. And believe me I was worried I would wear it out as easy and addicting as it is to just sit around flicking it.. but still opens with a crisp snap and locks up as good as any liner lock I have owned.. and the spring action even holds the blade in when closing.. unlike some I have had open up in my pocket and that is not fun.... This one you wont have that problem.. it has a nice strong spring.. and works to open it and too also keep it closed.. Blade has to be over 1/4 open before action takes over..

They come in 2 styles I could find ... The Red with the serrated blade and the Black one with the plain edge blade.. what caught my eye was the handle design and it is awesome.. It fits like a glove.. I have always loved this style of handle..

It's been a while since I have been excited over a knife purchase and this one does it for me.. For the price of these you can't go wrong.. you wont have to worry about loosing it or breaking it or busting the tip off your $300.00 baby.. And it's fun too open and cuts stuff too, to top it off.. What more could you ask for..

Here is a picture of the inner workings...

I got mine off eBay from Seller tinman1

and was a pleasure to buy from. Extremely fast shipping and stands behind his products..

Now that I have went over the Pro's and gushed about how much I love this knife.. it would only be fair to cover the Con's as well.. As with any cheap or even some expensive knives.. Be ready to get out the tools and some loctite.. The pivot pin was loose on both mine and caused the blade to be off center.. No problem though and easily fixed.. and expected for a $14.00 dollar knife... as you can see from the pictures the cheapo nylon blade washers are good.. But I am gonna try to find some nice PH Bronze ones to replace them.. If I can't.. no biggy it still works just fine, but I feel would be even better with better washers.. And If I had my way... The scales would have been HA III coated for a little better grip and long term durrability.. Don't get me wrong though, This is some of the nicest anodized coating I have seen and expected far less for the price..

Ok I think that about it for now.. Hope you enjoyed this review and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask..

Interesting. How is the spring holding up? Any noticeable wear or damage to the spring-bar (maybe in a month or two)? How exactly does it stay in place (I only see one hole in the tang of the blade)?
Thanks for the review and pics.

P.S. Try Kershaw Packrat (black or orange flavors) - might be right up your alley.

thanks for the reply.. I will do a follow up on the spring at a later date... but so far it feels like it's doing well and I'm putting it through it's paces.. there is no rough binding or any noticeable weakening at all.. The action is unbelievable smooth on these... Way way more responsive than my Kershaw leek and a lot smoother.. no blister on my finger yet either lol .. It may be hard to see it but there is a hole in the blade that holds the spring.. Again though I will keep you posted on the longevity of the spring.. I hope it holds up I really like carrying this knife.

Thanks for the heads up on those pack rats.. I'm def gonna get one of the orange ones .. love the belly on that blade

That's a real nice looking patent infringing knife there...Not cool in my book.

liner lock.. I will get a pic of the lock up....

What knife is this a copy of? I was thinking it looked like one but couldn't put my finger on it... I was thinking it is similar to the Benchmade OTF?, but is Illegal for most to carry..
I'm not sure what patent it is infringing upon.. But I'm the end user and it's not my problem.. there are tons of clones out there.. I have a knock off Sebie that is a blatant rip off that I'm sure you would totally tweak out about.. I hate to have to take the jack ass stance in this reply, but I'm tired of hearing people grip about products being copied and made available to the public.. It's not my fault.. And it's been going on forever.. Does it make it right? No.. Had I bought a high dollar one like this and then found this one to be exactly like it in every aspect ie; Blade steel, craftsmanship, and quality for a fraction of the cost of the original one.. I would be pissed too. Or maybe I would buy it and beat the snot out of it with out feeling guilty. If I were the patent holder I would have my lawyers sue the crap out of them.. But in the real world, and in this day and age with gas prices sky rocketing and the economy tanking ... A bargin is a bargin is a bargin..... I say..

I'm really a nice guy, but this argument has been going on forever and it's always being dealt to the buyer, instead of those who are breaking the real laws. I don't want to feel guilty for legally purchasing something made available to the general public..

What knife is this a copy of?

Thomas W is referring to the spring assist. What this knife is showing is very similar to Kershaw's patented Speedsafe.

Ahhh... That must differ from the spring in my leek and scallion cause they are totally different.. Still... let the lawyers sort that out... My rc car has the same style suspension springs that my chevy truck has but in a much smaller scale ... do I care?

Only one part of the spring is different...the serpentine bends in the spring. Everything else looks like Kershaw's Speedsafe. I know this wasn't the focus of your thread so I'll drop it going forward. Enjoy your knife.

a poor simile. A more apt one would be, "Chevy uses the exact same piston design as a piston Ford custom designed for its truck engine." That might cause a lawsuit. It has in the past. It's called "proprietary design".

So yes, you should care. And even if you don't. Most of us do.

Well put! Kershaw's Speedsafe assisted opening system, which uses a torsion bar to help open the knife, is patented. As such, this is a fairly textbook definition of patent infringement...

Glad you like the knife, but I'm with Thomas W. Companies should innovate anew and respect the achievements of others.

That is ridiculous.. so every spring assisted knife other than Kershaw is breaking some form of law by implementing the use of a spring action to deploy the blade? whats next the use of a certain edge profile is going to be infringing upon someones patent or grip material? Asinine! And again not my problem.. I didn't make the knife.. and I say let the lawyers handle it..Who's to even say they are even in the wrong other than the patent holder.. I mean they are a pretty well known brand maybe they have a right to use this style of blade assist? I will enjoy my most affordable and very useable new knife that Is for sale in a free trade market place to the public.

No, but many pay to sub-license. We pay a royalty.

And again not my problem.. I didn't make the knife..
Perhaps someday you will see these type situations differently. Hope so.

and I say let the lawyers handle it..
They have, and will.

Who's to even say they are even in the wrong other than the patent holder..
Do I count?

I mean they are a pretty well known brand maybe they have a right to use this style of blade assist?
They don't

Thomas has worked for Kershaw for years and has worked in the knife business even longer. If it is his considered opinion that there is a patent infringement, then if I were you I'd not argue the point with him. He is in a position to know. You aren't.

Time to stop digging that hole.

I agree w/Johnny Fontane in that this is not the appropriate thread for the specifics that this conversation has turned to...I apologize for the drift.

Jefff, I know you like knives, and have been complimentary about our products in the past. The industry needs fans, fans just like you. This forum is a nice platform to discuss and debate ideas. Many of these subjects come from positions and perspectives we haven't pondered on or thought of from our past. The exchange of these idea's and thoughts can be positive, and sometimes will change the way we think and feel about a specific subject.

From the outside, IP, is given little thought. When you really become an enthusiast of cutlery, and immerse yourself into the industry, honor and integrity details start to really matter.

I'd encourage you to become more than you are today with regards who, what, where, and even why when it comes to spending your future knife dollars.

Not just the Speedsafe, but the knife itself looks like the illegitimate lovechild of a Benchmade Infidel and a DDR Madd Maxx.

Sorry for the delay .. Just took a pic of it.. Lock up is on par with other liner lock folders. And IMHO for this "cheaper" style of knife, one of the best I have seen..
