This might make me sound like an idiot but the result might be useful for you.
I used Devcon 2 part epoxy to help hold the scales on a kit I was making because it only had one pin going through them. I used WD40 to blow out the grit after I was finished sanding it down, then I used some heaver oil to lubricate it. The next day the scales were falling off. I read the WD40 can and it is supposed to be good for removing adhesives.Aparently it removes epoxy very well.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !
