Hi Guys.

I do not have much knowledge about Tom Mayo's knives (his TNT to be specific).

But they seem to be loved by a lot of people, what is it with them that people love?;)

No disrespect,

Tom Mayo makes some of THE BEST knives that you CAN buy!! They are also some of the smoothest knives you can buy. They are soooooo comfy in the hand, and wicked, wicked sharp!

Hi TKC.

I see that for the TNTs, the handle cutout seems to be for the middle finger, since it is located below what you would see on a usual tactical. it is very comfortable?

In my opinion, Mayo knives have extremely comfortable designs.
Obviously, a considerable amount of thought has gone into the ergonomics.

Tom has pioneered a look and feel that is all his own. That says a lot in the world of knives. If I were looking to get one, I'd be looking for a true TNT, that's
Titanium and Talonite. Did I mention Tom's a great guy, he posts here occasionally and he has a great respect for the real pioneers of custom knives.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but if you asked me to list the things I didn't love about my TNT, it would be...nothing. Action, lockup, design, build quality, feel, the list goes on. I feel like everything about the TNT is dialed in just right and it's a special knife.

hey guys, thanks for the input.

If I wanted to try out a Mayo, should I get the Buck Mayo? there seems to be more versions. Which one will let me get a feel of the real mayo? size and etc.

regards,

mike

Tom Mayo's knives are among the best built pieces that you will find in custom tactical/utility folders. They have great ergonomics, tight tolerances, and flawless fit and finish. I would highly recommend them.

I think any of the production Buck Mayos should give you a decent idea of what Tom's customs feel like, but you should be aware that they are not contoured quite as nicely as the customs and that the action won't be as smooth as on the customs.

The best Buck Mayo is the 172 (in my opinion). It is a nice knife for what you pay.
Anyway, there is a world of difference between the Buck and a real Mayo. The Buck has the size of a medium TNT, it is a titanium framelock with a S30V blade, but the fit&finish are far from custom version.

Toms knives are at the top of the heap when it comes to custom folders IMHO. I EDC a Mayo and as stated before the fit, finish and action are second to none! Skip the Buck save your money up and as stated before get a true TNT, titanium and talonite or 6K. It'll be your favorite for a long time, I promise ;)

Couldn't have said it any better. My TNT is one of the best knives I own. You WILL NOT be disappointed with any of his knives.

Yup, he nailed it right on the head!!

I think they are the epitome of well made framelocks.

they're pricey in the aftermarket but they're worth it.

Isn't Mr. Mayo a surfboard shaper? He makes knives too?
:D
Anton you have the sickest collection I've ever seen.

thanks for all the nice compliments

The cutout is for your THUMB, not your middle finger.

All of my knives (except the midtech TMX parts machined by halpern) are built by hand, one at a time!!!!

1. He makes unique knives with a smooth action, solid lockup, and killer aesthetics.

2. He takes the time to communicate with intrusive collectors(who me?) who call him at 6:00 am.....and is pleasant(most of the time;))

3. He's really humble, and says "stinkin'" a lot.

4. He is not a FNG, he cares about the continued value of his work, offers uncompromised customer service, and good value.

So why does he suck? Because he is REALLY DIFFICULT to get a knife from!!:D:D:D

Tom does great work. I have a couple of his TNT's and they are something else. He is one of the few that I consider a truly custom knife maker.:D:thumbup::cool:

Yeah, I LOVE Tom's work!! I currently have 3 Mayo's, and love each and every one of them. I love the fact that he does NOT make the same knife twice; each one IS unique.
