Tomahawk vs Kukri as a weapon?

I know that alot of people state a kukuri is more versatile or effecient for chopping tasks. This may or may not be true. I think it is very dependent on the user and the blade. But what about their usages as weapons? Which one, as your best guess, is more durable, easier to use, and possibly more efficient as a weapon? I do lean towards the hawk a bit, seeing as every culture in the world has used it as a weapon. Whereas one a handful have used the kukri design. But..my opinion doesn't matter. I want to know what you guys think.

I throw my hawks for fun. Fighting with one has no place in My life.

It all depends on training I think.

There are types of attacks that work better for eacy.

I have been throwing my hawks for about a decade. I have been throwing knives for about 20 years or so.

Part of the reason that a hawk is such a universal weapon, is that they are much less costly to manufacture than swords (this is as true back in the mid evil times as today).

If, for same cost you could outfit soldiers with 100 axes, or 1 sword for the same cost of manufacture, it makes sense.

More edge with a knife. You can be less accurate. The weight can be less forward , which can make for quicker changes in direction. Also, less likely to break a than the wooden handle on a hawk. I think if you were well trained on either, you would not be under edged as it were.

Whichever one you are more competent and comfortable with and whichever one you have on hand. personally, this is like asking if a .45 or .40 is better in a gun fight. it probably wont come down to who is swinging the bigger barrel, it is who has the most experience with their particular weapon.

Even your general opinions would help a bit. I know experience plays a large factor. And I'm sorry Pipeman...but some peoples lives might include breaking a few people-shaped eggs. What are your personal bias's?

I use both.
Yeah, I'm that weird guy that carries a tomahawk and a kukri with him. There are things I can do with a kukri I can't do with a hawk, and vice-versa. They really complement each other well.

Hawks aren't for some people, and kukri aren't for some people. Some people like both.

Not sure what you're asking Re: " My personal bias's"..
I think I stated my case on actual fighting with my hawks. It has No place in MY life.

If I go into medievil battle, I would take the hawk for its reach and lighter weight. But in Person Versus Person conflict, the weapon really doesn't matter. A nice rock and good aim would do the work. That is on theory ofc. Also, in the state of modern warfare such a weapons become irrelevant. Where bullets fly and bombs fall, they are just "extra weight".

P.S. Excuse my poor English

No offense, but why when someone asks which [list of items] is best for [purpose], would someone even respond if their whole response is [purpose] with [list of items] has no place in my life." ??

Example: "Which hatchet is best for splitting wood?"

"Splitting wood with hatchets has no place in my life."

"Umm, ok. Which hatchet is best for splitting wood?"

See?

I'm with you on this, I believe that a Khukri and hawk compliment each other. Kind of like a Hawk and Bowie. :)

I did some testing a few months ago, a khukri vs a hawk. In my testing the khukri won because I've use it a ton and know it well, but I don't know the hawk really well. So if I was to only pick one right now, it would be a khukri. But since I don't have to pick just one, I'll take my favorite khukri (20" Sirupati or 16.5" WWII depending on enviroment) and a hawk.

This is a tough question. I am having troulble picking one over the other.

Hawk is likely to have more reach and can be equipt with a hammerpoll or spike. Kukri has more cutting edge and can stab.

...tough call. -But I do know that I would definately take either of them over a rock.

No Offence But, just sayin.

To the OP, it all boils down to person weilding the weapon on the fight. Remember, in a fight a hawk or kukri, or any weapon for that matter, are just tools in the carpenters hand. Same as asking "who would win in a fight a viking or samurai?" It all comes down to the person.

Me personally, I'd chose the hawk simply due to training.

Like I said, I'm leaning a bit toward the hawk because of it's durability. And it does have a few advantages that even a sword doesn't. The ease of use is certainly there, and so is the reach. It's a hatchet tuned a bit more for cutting more people and less wood. Now the kukri I don't have much experience with. The HI guys foam at the mouth whenever you mention a kuk, and they have appealed to me a bit. The versatility of a kuk is definitely up there, and it's use as a weapon has been proven. But...not to the same extent as a tomahawk. Maybe it's the American in me. It just feels right to be holding a hawk in one hand, and a long knife in the other. Flows like water. But...that's just my thought on it. I really wanted to know everyone else's opinion!

The kukri has plenty of battle proven performance.

When you see that it's derived from the Celtic Falcata and Greek Kopis swords, which were swords designed to be able to thrust through thick armor and also to be able to cleave through a helmet, you see they were quite successful

You just don't hear as much about them.

Like I mentioned before -- go with both. Make your long knife a kukri, and you have the best of both.

Like a sweet and beautiful khukuri?

I personally enjoy using the two together. It's like Peanut Butter with Jelly, they each do well on their own and are very tasty, but put them together and the taste is epic!

Why choose? :D

the nice thing is that you can throw either of them, if need be. both are battle proven.

we call this a win - win

If I had to pick just one as a weapon it would be a 25" Kumar Kobra from Himalayan Imports. It's got good reach, a long cutting edge and is light enough to retain good speed when you need it. :D ;)

P.S. If you think the kobra is too light, get a 25" sirupate instead. ;)
