Like a lot of us I have several SAKs! In this short video I narrow down my top 5. Take a look and tell me if you agree!

What's your favorite or top 5 swiss army knives?

my 5 favorites...

Farmer
Pioneer
Bantam (wish I could track down an Alox model)
Classic
Sentinel

Farmer
Old Soldier
Wenger SI Soldat
Pioneer
Cadet II with saw and second blade (no dumb nail file)

Really surprising that anyone would prefer the nailfile of cadet over the awl/scraper of the pioneer.

Everything has its purpose. I have used the file on my Classic on my nails on several occasions. Plus, the tip of the Cadet nail file can be used on Phillips screws in a pinch.

 I just cut my fingernails at home and that's it.

So can the tip of the can opener, and both cadet and pioneer have that. To me, nail file = useless tool = waste of steel.

My favorite 5 are:

1. Victorinox Fieldmaster
2. Victorinox Super Tinker
3. Victorinox Trail Guide
4. Wenger Handyman
5. Wenger S10

I use Wengers more often than Victorinox SAKs. I like that the regular models are a bit smaller than Victorinox's, that there are different handle scales to choose from (not just colours, but different shapes and materials), the blade profile with a bit more belly, etc. (the large Ranger models are awesome, too). Another reason why I tend to favour Wenger is that Victorinox models available in my country tend to be those with corkscrews and I really prefer the phillips driver.

Anyway, here's my list (in no particular order)

-Wenger EvoGrip S18 (similar to the Victorinox Fieldmaster). The S17, S18 and their Victorinox equivalents (Huntsman and Fieldmaster) have the perfect tool combination for my indoors and outdoors needs, without being too big to carry every day. That's probably why I own several versions of each. :D

-Victorinox Electrician Plus. I love the feel of alox SAKs, especially those with no keyring attachment. The saw and awl are excellent, and I just love the little sheepfoot blade. The Farmer might be more useful (I always seem to need a can opener when carrying the Electrician or Electrician Plus), but I just enjoy the Electrician more.

-Victorinox Compact. Brilliant urban design, the only flaw I can find in it is that they put that stupid parcel hook on the back instead of an awl. Lots of utility packed into just two layers.

-Victorinox Safari Trooper (this pattern was made by a lot of different companies for the German army). I managed to get half a dozen or so of this from several manufacturers a few years ago, they were very cheap. I like the size and how thin they are, nice tool combination for outdoors use.

-Wenger RangerGrip 78 (basically the same as a Victorinox OHT). I like the Ranger 78 or the OHT for those times when my SAK has to be my main folder (I usually carry a folding or fixed blade knife and a SAK). I tend to favour the Ranger line because I like pushing on the little cross shield to unlock the blade (it's a nice detail), the blades on the one hand opening models come with a plain edge from the factory (I've had to reground some of my one hand opening Vics) and, most of all, because of the extra length on the saw and the way the saw blade is angled. It works better for me than the saw on the OHT (or other large Victorinox models).

A lot of cool models got left out, it's hard to narrow the list down to just five.

There's a Cadet II with a small blade instead of the nail file.

On my Wengers, I actually prefer the nail file to a small blade. To begin with, the main blade on my SAK usually is as small a blade as I might need (since I carry it in addition to a folder or fixed blade). Also, the can opener on Wengers doesn't have a screwdriver tip, so I've modified the tip of my nail file to work as a small screwdriver (two minutes work with a Dremel). When traveling, I sometimes use the scissors on my SAK to trim my nails (I wrestle and our nails are checked before a match), Wenger scissors leave messy edges so the file is handy to have.

The only SAK's I carry are the ALOX Cadet in my pocket and the Classic on my key chain. But I have a SwissTool on my hip, so I'm covered.

RangerGrip 79
Black (EU) Forester
Huntsman
Camper
Tourist
+1 Waiter

Funny it's also bigger to smaller. Don't like alox, don't like screwdriver or ecoline/II editions.
