I have been getting back into fishing more lately so when I saw this little guy on the TOPS website I decided to give it a shot. Water borne activities are an area where I am rather fond of steels with corrosion resistance, and while I always have a heavy cutting tool handy somewhere near by I like having a smaller fixed blade knife on my person when I am fishing. They come in handy for lots of little cutting chores.
This is the TOPS BTK (Bird & Trout Knife)
The specs are
Over All Length:.....6.75 in / 17 cm
Blade Length:........3 in / 7.6 cm
Thickness:............1/8 in / 3 mm
Steel:..................440c RC 58-60 Cryo Treaded
Handle:................Grey Micarta
Sheath:................Leather Paddle
Weight W/Sheath:.....5.3oz / 150.25 g
Weigth W/O Sheath:...3.5oz / 99.2 g
Desiged by:..........Allen Jensen
The sheath is really comfortable, and the whole rig is so light I wore it all over town forgetting I had it on my belt.
It has a slight S-Curve shape with with a Nessmuk style hump in the blade. It is a small knife but still really comfortable in the hand in multiple grips.
It is also very sharp and has a very nice pointy tip to work with.
So far I've only gotten to take it on one actual fishing trip. The knife really is well suited for the tasks. It is light and nimble and very sharp so using it to cut line and string and such while maintaining a grip on other things was easily doable.
On that trip for whatever reason I wasn't having any luck with lures so I fell back on an old stand-by...dough balls made by wetting down crackers.
