This has been posted here before - but while in my local Home Depot I managed to find their own brand Husky Torx driver set.

It comes with 4 double ended bits, fitting -

T4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 15

the handle stores 3 of the double-ended bits, and the fourth has to remain attached to the driver recepticle.

It's in the screwdriver section/display, and smaller than I first thought.

Price $5.97

The part # is 74502 -
use that in the search on HomeDepot.com

I have this and the screwdriver set, it's a very useful tool.

BUT WHY would they have storage for only 3 of the 4 bits. I hate it that one needs to be on the shaft.
I haven't lost one yet tho :)

The best part of that is HD's lifetime warranty... no more worrying about stripping the drivers and then finding a replacement.

They're supposed to give you a replacement in the HD store.

Thanks I have been looking for a set that goes that small for weeks! I'm going to HD tomorrow.

Have it. Use it. For that price get two sets for those screws that just spin if you don't have a wrench on both sides.

UnknownVT, I don't know.....thats pretty expensive :D , how could you go wrong ? I will pick me one up as a back up for my others. Thanks for posting this.

I bought a pocket torx set at Northern Tool and Equiptment a few years back. It's one of those ones that has all of the different size torx bits in a slip-joint style plastic handle. It rules for edc adjustment.

That's what I've got too, it's a very handy tool.

Edited to say that I was referring to the Husky one.

Here are some initial impressions:

This thing is tiny - so the question of durability might come up.

For the bit sizes supplied I feel this is in the "precision"/"jewellers" class of drivers eg: T4 is tiny. So I'm unlikely to use them for very heavy duty stuff.

But the Home Depot brand as already mentioned is supposed to give a lifetime warranty and will replace things on the spot at the store......

As for fit and finish - I used the driver for fine adjustments to a couple of my Kershaw Leeks.

The pivot on one - and the amount of turn was minute to get the tension just right - one really has to do this with feel/touch - eg: even 1/16 turn is way too much for the adjustments I was doing.

Also fine adjustment of the safety on another Leek - again this was by feel to get the safety to basically be tight and hard to move accidentally - but still be able to engage/disengage it smoothly albeit with a bit of confidence inspiring resistance/stiffness.

For those tasks the driver was fine -

It's hard to gauge how small the driver and bits are - here's another attempt to show the relative size with a ruler in inches and a US 1 cent/penny -

I thought at first the bits were not marked - but they are, just very hard to see - as this enlarged area (barely) shows -

i bought a set of torx drivers made by the "general" tool company at home depot (maybe lowes..i frequent both)

nice quality...i'm not a big fan of those multi bit drivers although for most knives they should work just fine

This is the set I got.The best thing about it is that my wife loves it too.I guess its about the only thing of mine that she uses.
Seems a little pricey but I figure up what it would cost to get everthing that is in this set and it was about the same as the Huskey sets. The fit of them is really great,I had some craftsman and I belive a set of made in China crap would have fit the screws better.

Thanks for the info, dudes!

I've had the "General" Torx screwdriver set from Home Depot for a couple of years. It's made in the USA and I like it alot. The smallest size is only T6 though.

The Husky set might be useful for the smaller bits and it's cheap too! I'll keep my eyes out for it the next time I'm at Home Depot.

UnknownVT - You always take amazing pictures.
I'm sitting here wondering how the heck you got those torx bits to suspend in the air like that!

Many thanks for the compliments.

When I was a kid I had this book on magic.....

but that has nothing to do with what you're wondering :D

It's quite simple I do a lot of "scanner photography" using a simple (cheapo) flatbed scanner.

So the objects are always in contact with the flat plate glass and when placing a sheet of paper behind/on top of the objects as the background - if some of the objects or even part of the object are taller than the rest - the paper does not make contact with the shorter/smaller objects - so it seems like they are suspended in mid-air......

Just like a magic trick, once explained -
they're easy......
(did you like the way the irrelevant "magic" remark got tied in ? )

some general flatbed Scanners advice

Picked up one of these sets some time ago after I saw it mentioned here (Mad Hungarian, I believe.) Been a great little set ... I used mine to disassemble several old hard drives, including much Torx Plus hardware tightened down pretty hard, and it's held up beautifully.

As the 4th torx doesn't fit in storage, I put the #4/#15 head in the shaft as if that gets lost, it's not big deal. I don't have any knives that use those Torx sizes.

I bought this exact tool this weekend to fix the pivit pin on my brother's Cuda. Very useful tool. When my wife saw it she asked why I got another one and promptly show me the exact thing I had abviously purchased before!!!!! It is so good I bought it TWICE :p
