hey folks.. here's some pics from the 3-d shoot we went to this past weekend... it was a lot of fun... we had a blast... as always...

the little dude and I, left from our house Wednesday afternoon and made really good time.. we got to the ranch around 5:45.. had some grub and settled into our camp, which was already set up, many thanks to my father-in-law who got there earlier in the afternoon... the ranch the the shoot is held on, is absolutely gorgeous

crossing over the foggy Golden Gate bridge... it always amazes me...

since the actual shoot didn't start until saturday morning, thursday and friday were spent relaxing around camp, fixing arrows and playing archery golf, which i have to say, it has got to be one of the coolest things i have ever done...

this dude rocked... he went through 2 rounds of golf (9 holes) both thursday and friday... he had a blast, he even par'd 2 holes..

more to come..

Neato!

Looks like you had a blast. This is definitely a sport I would like to try some day. Nice to see a Koster forum knife getting some attention, too! Makes me want to take mine for a spin.

Thanks for sharing, and all the best,

- Mike

Awesome adventure, Mike:thumbup:
Glad you all had a blast:)

Thanks a bunch for sharing.

Sweet. I'm very jealous. I love the 'coon skin cap. I would not be found without mine when I was his age. BTW... sweet Jacket. The awesome thrift store again?

the misses and our older son came up and met us on friday night... Stingray and his wife Katherine also came up on friday.. we woke up the next morning and got to shooting.. we shoot 2 of the 3 courses on saturday and do the 3rd sunday morning... like always, the course layout was awesome... it weaved in and out of dense oak trees and rolling hills...

our older son has been shooting shooting a longbow since he was 5, he's 11 now... he's a natural..

IMG_6282.jpg

speaking of naturals, the misses did extremely well for for not shooting all that often... she has great form, it looks like she has been shooting for years...

this is my father in law's, close friend Michael, he's super cool... this guy just strated shooting 3 months ago and already is kicking some major butt... he and I were neck and neck on the 3rd round...

IMG_6319.jpg

check out the arrow in flight on this pic that Nick took..

IMG_6331.jpg

most of these shoots we go to, set up an assortment of cool novelty targets, this one was wild... not only did the target spin, you were also spinning.. and to top it all off, you had to roll 2 dice, to tell you which targets to hit...

IMG_6356.jpg

i have afew more pics.. thanks for your patience..

mike

here's the last of the pics... i took quite a few.. it was hard to pick and choose...

these were primarily taken on sunday morning, while we shot course A..

IMG_6381.jpg

there were lots of knives present... it was cool.. i used these 2 quite a bit over the weekend... a TOPS Shango, designed by our very own Joezilla.. a review is on the way for this knife it's a solid performer.. i really enjoyed it.. and i also got a good chance to play with the Koster WSS forum necker... this one is also a very useful little EDC user...

Great pics...

What longbows/recurves are you guys using?? I can't recognize some of the makes, and am interested in some of the more, traditional bows.

Thanks in advance

there was an assortment of bows being used.. all traditional...

- 2 Steve Abbott longbows
- a Martin x-200 recurve
- a Martin "stick" longbow
- a Internature Viper longbow
- my older son shoots a Black Rhino m-54
- the little dude is shooting a cherry/hickory primitive bow
- i am shooting a Don Dow longbow and in the golf pics i am shooting another Steve abbott longbow.

Nice shots!

Last week I dragged my long bow out for the first time in about a decade and took it to the local range. I sucked about as bad as I expected I would, but nobody was injured.:o I am hoping to regain a little proficiency before Bush Bash II next month but am too busy to get to the range this week and am out of town next week.

Perhaps I can get a few form pointers next month?

Great pics, Mike. It's cool to see the entire family out there having a good time.

I'm interested in hearing more about that TOPS knife.

Right on Mike, nice pics. I'm glad to see that arrow in flight pic turned out!

We had a blast, I can't wait for the next shoot.

This was my first time shooting at this competition, but this is were it all started for me. Last year I went up for an afternoon, just to hang out with these guys, drink a beer and watch them shoot. Boomstick gave me a shooting glove, and Mike introduced me to another Mike that just happened to be selling a bow. My wife later got in touch with him and bought it for me for christmas! I've been addicted ever since!

Here's a few pics from our camera, the wife did most of the picture taking:

Like Mike said, this guy was crazy good, especially for having only been shooting for a couple of months with a borrowed bow!

For some reason, the pics that turned out the best all seem to be of Mike...

Kathryn got a video of the spinning target, I'll try to post it for anyone who's interested to see how that one worked. Unfortunately, she got video of my first shot that missed, and I cheated a bit by moving on the stool, but she cuts it off right before I make a perfect second shot! See what happens when you let a woman run a camera...

Hmm.. couldn't figure out how to make it viewable and playable in this post. It has the code to "embed" it into a web page, but that doesn't work here. If anyone knows how to insert a video from flickr into a post, let me know.

Follow the link to see a short video of this target, and me break an arrow:
